I just got this e-mail from chisox.com:

WHITE SOX ACQUIRE TRAVIS HINTON FROM MILWAUKEE AS
PLAYER TO BE NAMED LATER

CHICAGO The Chicago White Sox have acquired minor-league first baseman Travis
Hinton from the Milwaukee Brewers, completing a deal from December 13, 2004 in which
the White Sox acquired outfielder Scott Podsesnik and Luis Vizcaino in exchange for
outfielder Carlos Lee.

Hinton, 24, led Class A High Desert (California League) in virtually every offensive
category in 2004, batting .302 (162-536) with 36 doubles, 22 home runs, 88 RBI and
80 runs scored in 137 games.

Hinton, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder who bats and throws left-handed, ranked third in the
CL in hits and fourth in home runs. He represented High Desert at the Carolina
League/California League All-Star Game, where he won the Home Run Derby before going
3-4 with two RBI to win Star of the Game honors.

In four minor-league seasons, all in the Brewers system, Hinton has batted .270
(381-1,412) with 42 home runs and 210 RBI in 385 games.

He posted great numbers last year for them. Anyone know anything about him other than the e-mail?

yes, but Fielder was playing every day in AA and Liefer was playing every day in AAA. They had nowhere else to put him - I guess.

Interesting. It looks like the Sox now have 4 firstbasemen (Casey Rogowski, Hinton, Brian Becker and Leo Daigle) to spread over the top 3 levels of the organization. Becker's a career minor leaguer, Daigle is past the prospect stage, and both Rogo and Hinton were at high-A last year. Might the Sox jump Rogo to AAA this year?

The entire minor leagues seem to be filled to the brim with power hitting first basemen who will never make their way past AAA. Jeff Liefer is the hero of this legion.

I agree, a decent PTBNL, but he is old for is league. I think High Desert is a hitter's environment too.

Honestly, there are very few can't miss prospects at any level, so theorizing how a 24-year old 1B will pan out is an exercise in futility.

To be fair, Liefer made it past AAA - of course, he sucked past AAA, but he made it. :D:

I was hoping the PTBNL had .400/55/145 minor league type numbers.

Rogo will probably mix his playing time between left field and 1st base in Bham. My guess is if the Sox like Hinton much at all he'll get time between DH and 1st at Bham as well. Of course Rogo is going to be a starter but I'm guessing Hinton will get plenty of at bats as well.

This was the first year he exploded. Hinton also plays some outfield but he's really nothing more then a DH, he's awful defensively (19 errors last year iirc).
