What does everyone expect Ben Davis to do if he obtains the starting position?

I would expect something like:

.250 - 15 HR - 55 RBI - 60 R - and most importantly somewhere around a 34% throwout rating

I think this is pretty good for a 8 or 9 hitter in the AL (with a DH)- especially if his throwout rating were that high

Very little. I'm still holding my breath for the AJ signing, and I'm getting a little flushed. The prospect of Ben Davis starting at catcher is the one thing I believe will keep this team from being a playoff contending team.

The premise of this whole thread is laughable, to say the least.

If he can hit 15hrs and .255 he would be a success...the guy scares me though....#2 cathcher? Sure....but A.J. would make me happy. I like Big Ben and I love to root for success stories, but I just can't roll the dice on him...I would rather have Burke

It's a good thing we have articulate members around here to give posting instructions.

We'd be lost without it.

I am not expecting the offensive side of the game out of him. I feel if he gives us adequate defense, then we will be fine with having him in the lineup, as long as other guys produce, which they should. I think Jamie needs to see a bunch of playing time, until he shows he doesn't deserve any. I am still holding out hope for AJ.

I have no expectations for Davis. He's a lifetime .237 hitter, so I'd be thrilled if he hits that well. He's never been able to win an every-day job in the big leagues his entire career. Hopefully, the light bulb comes on for him, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I'm not sure whether I want A.J. His bat would definitely help our lineup, but there are just so many stories about what a prick he is floating around. Part of me thinks his attitude would add some needed intensity to our team, but there's also the chance his demeanor would rip the clubhouse in two.

Does he deserve a second chance (some could say third)? Did anyone ever think it wasn't him, but the guys around him in SF? Atleast AJ never got into a fight with a teammate, ie Kent and Bonds (yes I know Kent wasn't there last year). I have seen him interviewed and on the BDSSP, and he seems like a great guy to have part of your team.

I'd be really happy with .230, 50 rbi's, and 50 runs. If he is in the upper half defensively, that would be great. Last year he did have a stint where he hit well in the clutch ( or was that Burke ). As Hawk says, " It's not what you hit, but when you hit it ". If Ben stays out of double plays, bunts well, moves guys over, etc., he wouldn't be a liability.

I expect him to break up any possible curt schilling no-hitter with a bunt single.

Somewhere between the Borchard Line and the Mendoza Line. And to lose the starting position to Burke by about May 12.

And then he loses his starting job about June 23 when the sox trade for Sandy Alomar.

"It's just not white sox baseball without a midseason alomar deal."

And then burke and davis share it again starting about August 2 when alomar goes on the DL.

I agree...Unfortunately, I don't feel to strongly about it, but I do think he'll have a respectable year (compared to years past)....

My final thoughts: Cmon AJ, sign already!

In 2001, the closest Ben has had to a full year, he hit 11 HR and .239, with a a .337 OB%. I think if you give him the starting job you can hope for .240-.250, 10-20 HR, and 60-80 walks. If he truly can handle the pitching staff well then I like those numbers at catcher.
