Looks like its just about done.. Waiting for Selig to let the Yankees get what they want... again..

NEW YORK -- The Diamondbacks (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=ari) and Yankees (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nyy) have agreed on a deal that would send Randy Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4288) to the New York for Javier Vazquez (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5947), prospects and cash, major league sources told ESPN.

I just don't understand how a team(Diamondbacks) that is focused on winning next year, doesn't want the best pitcher in the major leagues on their team. Instead, they would rather get a good pitcher and cash.

It'll be so fun watching the Yankees not even reach the world series this year.

FWIW, ESPN Radio reported it was a done deal, per Buster Olney and the guy filling in for Dan Patrick, approximately 15 minutes ago.

The Diamondbacks reportedly are already discussing a Javier Vazquez trade with the Orioles.
Vazquez wants to stay on the East Coast and the Diamondbacks likely will attempt to accomodate them. Erik Bedard would seem to be a lock to be included in any Vazquez deal between Baltimore and Arizona. The Diamondbacks may also want Jorge Julio or John Maine and an outfielder from the group of Larry Bigbie, Luis Matos and Jay Gibbons. Dec. 30 - 3:29 am et

I imagine KW will at least be giving the D-backs a call. Garland and prospects for Vazquez and cash sounds awfully good to me.

There lies the point in question. "It sounds good to you". I am going to assume it wouldn't sound so good to an Arizona fan.

Or Joe Garagiola Jr. The Orioles can put together a better package than we can and they are more desperate for pitching. I'd imagine Vazquez will end up with the Orioles before the offseason is over.

It just goes to show you how important the bottom line is (here's where the picture of JR goes). The D-backs have been in the hole for years, and it's starting to kill them.

If they want to deal Vazquez, we can take him if they would want Garland.

I wouldn't mind one bit. Then our pitching staff can be the White Yanksox.

Nope, probably not. Then again I have told my secretary I am not taking calls this afternoon so they will not be able to conference me in on the deal anyway.

I read somewhere that part of the deal is contingent on the Yankmees getting a 72 hour window to sign RJ to a contract extension. And who else but the Yankmees would be giving RJ a 2 year extension?

The report in the NY Times on what AZ will do after the trade is consummated:

"As for the Diamondbacks, they will now try to ship Vazquez to the Chicago White Sox for outfielder Paul Konerko and a pitcher, or to Baltimore for a combination of players, including relief pitcher Jorge Julio, starting pitcher Erik Bedard and outfielder Jay Gibbons. Arizona has also talked about sending Navarro and some of its own prospects to the Dodgers for outfielder Shawn Green."

I didn't know Konerko was an outfielder.......

FWIW - deal done and approved by MLB. Only remaining item is for Yanks & RJ to agree to an extension, but a 2-yr deal at $16mil per was rumored a little while back.

DBacks end up trading RJ and getting Vazquez, Green, a prospect, and some cash (about $5mil if my math is correct). That's pretty good IMO.

I thought this was a great trade for the Dbacks...But I am confused at the fact that they signed Ortiz and Glaus to MONSTER contracts, meaning they want to win NOW rather than later...Who better than the Big Unit to lead your team to a World Series....But I do like the trade, and Arizona got some good players (pending Green) just for Johnson
