View Full Version : Opinions on a Trade Idea

My friend and I were bouncing this around:

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I didn't hear this anywhere. This is just an idea.

I know the money might not work, but I would like to get some opinions on this.

Konerko and Garland

for

Soriano and J. Nelson

A fifth starter would have to be found, but this could really change the dynamics of the team. What do you think?

Do you have any other trade ideas? I know a lot of fans always have trade ideas in mind. I like to speculate even if they never happen.

This team is looking to cut down the baserunning errors, strikeouts, and upgrade the fielding. Soriano is not what this team is looking for.

Wow that would be awful. We dont need another bullpen arm and if we were going to get one it wouldnt be the washed up Jeff Nelson. Additionally, Soriano isnt a departure from what we've had around here the past few years anyways. Garland and Konerko would be far more valuable than those two.

I was actually bouncing back and forth a bit. I don't know if Nelson is washed up. I know his numbers were down last year, but he is nasty when he is on. Soriano brings some pop, some speed, but definitely some strikeouts.

I really don't think too much of Garland. 4th or 5th starter at best. I also think it may be a prime time to get max value for Konerko.

Do you have any other trade ideas? I know a lot of fans always have trade ideas in mind. I like to speculate even if they never happen.

Yeah, Soriano's bad news in the field and Konerko is much better offensively. Plus I don't see how and old, expensive reliever would be better than a solid 4-5 starter with lots of potential. Not a good move, imho.

thats almost as bad as trading an all star in waiting powerhitting outfielder for a guy who batted .244 last year and a relief pitcher. oh wait that did happen

I would Like to Trade LaMarr Hoyt to the Padres for Guillen, Salazar and Tim Lollar. That would give us a much needed Lefty in the rotation, and deal garland,
we can move Urinebe back to 2nd, and Salazar is a solid IF/OF utilityman. Also we should deal Vance Law to the Expos for Bob James just in case Shingo has an off year.

Horrible trade. Soriano is overrated and Jeff Nelson is an old geezer.

after all the time spent to get a 5th starter, there is no way we would/should open up the rotation and have to find another one. that would be a terrible trade.

Whew... I got worried there... I thought the days of posting trade ideas discussed with friends were over...

There is only one way I would do this trade and that would be if the Rangers then turned around and traded Konerko, Garland, and Cash back to us for Soriano and Nelson. That's the only way!

Aside from my affinity for Paul Konerko as a ballplayer and a person, the concept of having 5 starters is still a fresh novelty to me, and I'm not ready to give it away just yet.

konerko alone for soriano and nelson would be a ripoff.

then you throw a starter into the mix.

I would quickly jump ship to the fire kenny bandwagon. maybe if we used the money saved to sign beltran and odalis perez.

Did any of you guys hear the rumored Garland for Soriano trade at the end of last season? Obviously, it didn't happen but I remember reading about it in the Sporting News magazine in Ken Rosenthal's column.

How about Garland and throw-in prospects for Soriano, and then Soriano for Vazquez and cash?

It's win-win for everybody.

The Rangers shed salary that can be used for other moves, and get some kind of return for a player that has fallen out of favor with their manager.

The Yankees fill their 2B spot vacated by the departure of Miguel Cairo with a guy that has already lived through the experience of being a Yankee and won a lot of fans over while doing it.

We get rid of Jon Garland, add Vazquez, and do this with the aid of Steinbrenner's cash while not losing too much from the farm system.
