Keep your eye on Fabio Castro, a little lefty in the White Sox's system who is having a solid winter in the Dominican Republic at just 19. He's been lightly pitched by the Sox thus far, going 21-7 in the low minors, working mostly as a reliever... - Phil Rogers, 12/25/04

Any comments on Fabio Castro?

Well he's had some good success in the minors since breaking into the Dominican Summer League at age 17 then moving on to Rookie Ball and A ball the following year. Like Phildo said, he's been used almost exclusively as a reliever.

2002 (Dominican) 10- 2, 64.2 iP, 37 H, 23 BB, 89 K, 1.95 ERA
2003 (Bristol) 6- 2, 47.0 IP, 29 H, 19 BB, 59 K, 1.72 ERA
2003 (Kannapolis) 0- 2, 11 IP, 8 H, 5 BB, 16 K, 3.27 ERA
2004 (Kannapolis) 4- 0, 51 IP, 44 H, 23 BB, 44 K, 3.00 ERA
2004 (Winston-Salem) 1- 1, 7.2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 9 K, 2.35 ERA

I don't know exactly what this kid throws, but most reports talk of him having a decent fastball in the high 80's/low 90's complemented with a good curve a a developing sinker. Sounds kind of like a Munoz clone....

The Fabio pitching for the White Sox? Now there is a way to get the attention of many Cubbie fans.

I'm not sure. I bet they eventually try him as a starter a la Munoz, but he's a very little guy. My guess is that he's destined for the bullpen, I doubt he'll ever have the stuff to be a closer.
