Johnny Oates passed away early today, four weeks shy of his 59th birthday. He fought a three-year battle against a brain tumor. He was always described as a great guy. Thoughts and prayers to his family during a very tough holiday. :(:

People in MLB always seemed to speak very highly of him. And he was a damn good manager. R.I.P.

This is sad news. I never heard a remotely bad word spoken about him. Rest in peace.

He could have been a great manager, but that was taken away by the brain tumor. RIP

Great guy indeed, managed the AAA Rochester Red Wings in the late 80s when I was growing up there. Always took the time to sign autographs, take pictures...all around class act. RIP Johnny O.
