From ESPN (http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=6830)

Bob (Chicago): Can you talk a bit about the White Sox in general, the moves they've made and how they're positioned in their division and in the league?

http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Jerry Crasnick: Bob,

A starting rotation of Garcia, Buerhle, Garland, Contreras and El Duque is pretty good if it's healthy, and Hermanson was a nice addition to the pen. I think Kenny Williams wants to make them less of a hit-or-miss, station to station team -- hence the acquisition of Podsednik for Lee. They have some questions, but in that division, I think they'll be competitive.

Nice to see someone finally without a completely negative outlook on this team. Also, on Maggs:

mike (dc): what's the word on Magglio? do you think he can be productive next year or will it take another year to get over his surgery/injury?

http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Jerry Crasnick: Mike,

Boras keeps insisting he's healthy, but I keep wondering why a guy would go to Austria for surgery on a meniscus tear. I think Maggs is going to have to sign a one-year, heavily incentive laden deal and prove he can do it before he goes back on the free agent market and gets the big coin. What does it tell you when Wade Miller has a rotator cuff injury and 15 teams are clamoring to sign him, and Magglio still hasn't signed?

Interesting, but aren't the Cubs just waiting to unload Shammy before signing Maggs?

they are watiing to unload shammy before getting Beltran. Maggs I believe would be their fallback plan

"What does it tell you when Wade Miller has a rotator cuff injury and 15 teams are clamoring to sign him, and Magglio still hasn't signed? "

I would say that because there is more of a premium on pitching and Miller had tremendous upside to be signed on the cheap. With Boras, Maggs is most likely asking for the moon and teams just aren't willing to pony up the dough for a possibly injured RF.

I think that when KW didn't offer Maggs arbitration, that sent huge warning klaxons off in the GM offices across MLB. I know if I'm a GM, I would know the White Sox wouldn't risk losing draft picks for the heck of it. They were obviously concerned about his health. I would approach contract talks with Boras with extreme caution.
