As if there ever was a shot to begin with. Polanco accepts arbitration. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1949787)

Phillies do not want him, though. They said Chase Utley is going to be there 2B, so he will probably be traded.

Atleast that is what Rotoworld says.

Polanco's 2004 salary was $3,950,000. What will he get through arbitration? Couldn't he have gotten a bigger contract through free agency?

For some players, believe it or not, it isn't about the money.

I said this yesterday, but I think he was about to lose some money when the non-tenders come about. With several more 2B about to become available, Polanco becomes less appealing. However, I am surprised that he wouldn't prefer a multi-year deal.

The Philadelphia Daily News' Marcus Hayes reports Philadelphia Phillies 2B Placido Polanco has accepted the club's offer of arbitration, although with 2B Chase Utley and 3B David Bell locked in at Polanco's spots he's a little puzzled as to why the club offered arbitration. "I don't even know why they offered me arbitration," Polanco said. "That probably took a couple of teams interest away from me."
