One-year deal per Ken Rosenthal - http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3257650

"The team is expected to use the 13-year veteran to fill its hole at third, keeping 2004 Gold Glover Cesar Izturis (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85422) at short."

It was time for him to get a change of scenery, but I wish him well. He's probably not going to like hitting at Chavez Ravine much (but at least he'll get to visit Coors sometimes!).

WOW. Let's see how long Valentin stays at the hot corner, while his power numbers decline in LA.

So Valenstache is going to play 3B? Are they going to trade for Royce Clayton to play SS?

I wonder how much money the Dodgers gave him for the year.

They'll have Valenstache and Jeff Pornstache Kent in the same infield! :D:

I don't think the $$ details are out yet. I bet it's not much and the Dodgers will try for someone like Drew or Varitek.

Farewell, Manos, and good luck in LA.

You were a key reason the '00 team won a championship.

You took one less guaranteed year to re-sign with us.

Your loyalty was repaid by getting jacked around for over a year while Williams tried justifying his trade for Royce Clayton. He would probably still be here if he hadn't been pouting wearing gym shoes when Manuel called him to pinch hit.

We'll never know what could have been.

Fare thee well, Jose. As much as you sucked on your way out, you were awesome in 2000. Might not have done it without you. Lots of great memories. My favorites are the broken bat single off Rivera in 2000 and the hands-raised walk-off in 2003.

Well said, PHG. Too many people on this board were too hard on Jose. He gave us a lot of good years and a lot of memories. I predict he'll hit 30+HRs in the fastball friendly NL.

:thumbsup:What could have been? Yes, Jose was great for us back in the day but he is obviously on the decline. His AVG and OBP have been dwindling since he's been with us and he is pretty much a "swing-for-the-fences" Sammy Sosa-wannabe at this point in his career.

I look forward to watching Valentin and Lee return to the shrine and tee off on Prior and Woods.

For someone whose sole offensive asset is hitting homers, it wont help him all that much to be moving to Dodger Stadium. He was really helpful in 2000, but I think he kinda exemplified the problems we've had over the past 4 years, though not necessarily all his fault. With Lee, Ordonez and Valentin leaving, it's clear that the White Sox are entering a new era.

He was definitely the one of the main sparkplugs on that team!
I'll never forget seeing Valentin hit for the cycle off the Orioles that year. He went in order: single, double, triple then homer. It was a beautiful day!:D:

Don't we play the Dodgers at the Cell this year?

Other than that, I wish Jose nothing but the best. He was a class act all the way. Five consecutive years of 25 homers is nothing to be ashamed of. He gave us all he had.

News
Don't fit Jose Valentine for a Rangers uniform quite yet. Talks between the team and the shortstop have been put on hold, according to published reports, but neither side had any comment on the developments. He hit .216 with 30 home runs and 70 RBI for the White Sox last season.

Views
If Valentine signs with Texas he will be a part-time shortstop and left-handed situational hitter. The Twins and Dodgers have also reportedly expressed interest in him, but the Rangers remain the favorites to land the 35-year old.
Even Yahoo cant get Jose's name right.

what a great human being, class act, cub killer, and team leader. The sacrifices he made positionally and monetarily are testaments to his integrity as a ballplayer and human being.

alas, the skill wasn't there anymore and the price was too high.

best of luck to you in LA.

the hands-raised walk-off in 2003.
Was that game 2 of that series? I know the other Sox win in that series was off of Jimenez's bottom 9th single through the middle. That was the first series I ever saw in New Comiskey/The Cell, and man what a series it was. Unforgettable.

All the best Manos.

I'd rather have a shortstop who hits .270+ than a shortstop who hits barely over the Mendoza line, strikes out a ton every season, but hits 25 homers. Do you think Sosa is a great ballplayer because he hits alot of zingers? :rolleyes:You just can't stop ripping on Manos, can you? http://www.flyingsock.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/angryfire.gif

So long, Jose. He gave us some GREAT moments while he was here. That 9th inning blast off Alfonseca in 2003 will probably always stick out for me. I wish him luck in LA. It was time to move on though, and I'm confident Uribe will do a better job for us this year.

Jose was my favorite sox player for awhile there. Yea, he had problems throwing the ball sometimes. And yeah, he didn't hit for a good average, but he had a big heart and he was fun to watch play. You won't find many better baserunners and he sure could turn a fastball around from the left side.

Yes, it is, cuz it says so on my "official clubhouse" sweatshirt.

I was there for the GWRBI off Rivera.
I was there for the GWRBI off the sCrUBS
I was there in KC for the 3-HR game.

Thanks for some great memories, Jose. I'll even spare the use of the nickname WSI has tagged you with. Good luck against the NL and the sCrUBS in particular.

Jose played hard, acted like he gave a damn and tried his best to win. His numbers since 2000 with the Sox have been excellent for that position.

What more can you ask of a guy?

Since no one has pointed out the greatest contribution Jose made for the Sox, I would like to point out that we would not have won the 2000 division championship without leading the AL in double plays. Jose and Ray were a great combo that year.

TSN's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Dodgers and Jose Valentin have agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
A decent stopgap. Valentin figures to take over as the Dodgers' third baseman against right-handers. That would leave Jeff Kent at second base and make Alex Cora trade bait. Antonio Perez can platoon with Valentin at third.

That from rotoworld.com

I hadn't seen this posted anywhere, forgive me if it was. If I'm a Dodgers fan, I'm not sure I like the idea of that glove at the hot corner.

It was 2001 at the Urinal. The pictures I posted of Jose's two-fingered kissies were taken as he crossed home plate after hitting a dinger. The Cubune had the picture on their sports page the next day and a certain notorious media troll called us "Smut Sox" fans for thinking it was funny.

Jose Valentin was the one Sox ballplayer who *got* what it means to be a Sox Fan in this town. That's the way I'll always remember him.

The Dodgers are ready to sign Jose Valentine to a 1 year contract as a stopgap measure at THIRD BASE! They clearly did not pay attention to his time spent at third on the southside. KW should keep lines open with L.A., if this is any indication to what they are capable of doing.
