If the Angels sign Clement, then Jarod Washburn will certainly be on his way out. I believe he is a pitcher KW has liked for some time. The question is, would you as a fan be satisfied with Washburn added to the rotation along with a guy like Cairo to platoon at second, if Clement doesn't sign with us? I could live with it, but obviously Clement would rather be had.

He got his GO/AO ratio up to 0.95 last year, but historically it's been around 0.6, and not a lot of SO to make up for it. Not a good fit.

I would for sure, I read this on ESPN too and thought the same thing...Washburn has been injured lately...we could get him and a Cairo type player for Clement...we are looking for a #3 or 4 starter, they don't have to be aces...if our #3 or 4 can win 14/16 games, then thats a success...if your #5 finsihes at .500, then pop the Champagne...Washburn as our #4 or 5 would be great to me

yes, but who is on the way out of Chicago to get Washburn? It wouldn't take much, they just want to rid themselves of his potential $7 million arbitration reward.

I'd much rather have Odalis Perez than Washburn. Not to mention we wouldn't have to give anything up to get him, except for the draft compensation.

If the Angels sign ClementWhat do you mean? My friend was listening to a walkman at 12:30 am while walking through the airport with Kenny Williams and heard on the Score that Clement was signing with the Sox.

I don't think I want him.

2000 7-2 84.3 IP 35 ER 37/49 BB/SO 3.74 ERA 133ERA+
2001 11-10 193.3 81 54/126 3.77 126
2002 18-6 206 72 59/139 3.15 138
2003 10-15 207.3 102 54/118 4.43 96
2004 11-8 149.3 77 40/86 4.64 99

edit: I swear I had the collumns line up. Is there some way to do this?

Odalis Perez. I don't think the answer can get much easier.

Given Washburn wont get arbitration, can anyone explain how the sox would go about it getting him? How much would he cost then? This has always confused me in baseball. I like the idea of Washburn. I remember watching him shut the sox out with a complete game at the cell block last year. I know he had a down year but he is a talented left handed pitcher. I like the idea of another lefty in the rotation.

Instead of Cairo, I say Polanco though.

Instead of Cairo, I say Polanco though. If the Angels don't sign him or offer arbitration by Dec 20, then on Dec 21 he becomes a FA. Pass on Washburn. Too much of a flyball pitcher for Comiskey and doesn't get the strikeouts to make up for it.

How do you reason this? Washburn isn't going anywhere.

If Clement falls through, I really hope they look at Perez and Lowe if they aren't already. Nobody else excites me. Millwood, El Duque, Loaiza, Milton, Lima, Wilson Alvarez?

Don't know.

Don't know. It's not my favorite option, but a decent one nonetheless. I agree that I would rather have Perez or Lowe, I'm just worried that their prices are going to majorly inflate once Clement signs. Which isn't necessarily a big deal, as long as Clement signs with us.:D:

Let's try and get Clement before we worry about what second rate options are available.

Let's try and get Clement before we worry about what second rate options are available. You can't, otherwise the second rate options become third rate options. It's always good to have a backup plan. Besides, if the reports are true that we matched the Angels offer, what more do you expect from the Sox?
