What would you think about the White Sox signing Norihiro Nakamura from Japan? We could have a power hitting third baseman which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

He is not a free agent, his rights still belong to his Japanese club. Meaning the Sox would have to purchase his rights for x amount of money, then offer him a deal worth a lot more then the one they got Takatsu with since he was a free agent.

He wouldn't hit 20 homers over here. Matsui was hitting 50+ homers a year in Japan before coming to the yankees. Why would we expect power numbers from Nakamura whose production is on the decline after a wrist injury and could never reach that kind of production in Japan?

depends on price, we do have Fields and Crede already at 3rd, but if he comes at a discount then why not add replace some of the power lost by the trading of Lee and Mags....all depends on price though, I'd rather get a solid SP.

Supposedly, he has accepted a $30 million 6 year contract from the Kintetsu Buffalos. That's only a slight raise.
A good but not outstanding hitter. http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/player.jsp?PlayerID=55
A career .872 OBP + SLG guy.

The signing was 2 years ago when he left the Mets high-n-dry. That is why there has to be a contract buyout from the Hanshin Tigers, before a contract can even be negotiated. He knows this is his last chance to play on the MLB and wants out of it now, as his production has declined over the 2 years since he last negotiated here.

It looks like his plate discipline is outstanding. Take a look at his OBP for the last five years:
2000 .381
2001 .434
2002 .400
2003 .357
2004 .390
Even if big league pitching were to take 25 points off those numbers, he would still be a very good hitter.
