On the Dan Patrick Show, Rob Dibble just said he'll get a White Sox tatoo if Jose Contreras doesn't win 17-20 games for the White Sox this year... we'll see how that one unfolds.

Here's to hoping Dibble never has to get "SOX" bruned into his ass.:gulp:

My expectations are so low for him. He really does have 18-20 game potential. Still, my Sox pessimism wins the day on this one. I'll be happy with 12-15.

:o:

I'm probably one of Contreras biggest backers, but I see him winning "only" 15 games. :gulp:

I hope he's got a parlor picked out.

I think it's reverse psych. Dibbs wants the tattoo - so he bets something that will NEVER happen just so he can get another one.

What if he wins 21?

Let's see 15 wins out of our number 3 starter? I'll take that!

So I am confused? Why wouldn't you want him to get "Sox" across his ass? Don't you want Contreas to win 17-20 games?

He could put Billy Koch's name on his ass, and Koch might pay him $1,000 to do it.

:bkoch:
"Uh... actually, my financial planner won't let me do that anymore..."

Re-read Dibble's quote. If he doesn't win 17-20 games, then he'll get the tattoo. So if he wins 17-20 - no tattoo.

Dib wussed out when Ichiro hit .300 (said he'd run naked through time square), but I like his record on wagers. Here's to 0 for 2!

Unfortunately, no matter the record, he will also have an ERA in the high 4s.

Unfortunately, no matter the record, he will also have an ERA in the high 4s.He can have an ERA of 20.00, as long as it translated to 20 wins as well. I'm only interested in the record.

To give Jose the benefit of the doubt, he had his family shipped in last year and he's out of New York. He's always had that potential, and maybe after having some time to get settled in Chicago with his family and where there isn't so much pressure he can get his head together. While 17-20 may be out of reach, I don't think 14-15 will, and from a #3-4 starter that would be nice.

Dan Patrick was discussing 17 - 20 wins for the entire 2004 - 2006 contract, correct?

Yes if that is the case, no way if for a single season.

Yes if that is the case, no way if for a single season. So I guess you think he'll win no more than 4-7 games next year considering he won 13 last year, right? :?:

No, I am talking about 17 - 20 wins for the White Sox.

He won 5 last year with the White Sox. I can see him winning several games each in 2005 & 2006. You can expect some down time from this middle aged pitcher. His $6 mil / year is guaranteed - no need to push yourself.

Anything better than a 5.00 ERA , 1.5 BR / Inn would be a miracle.

It's amazing that someone can find something to bitch about in the proposal that our #3 starter has 17 wins. No wonder Sox fans have the reputation nationally that we do.

Yeah, that is pretty much the sorry arse record you will find in the Baseball Encyclopedia in 2007 for

Contreras, Jose Ariel (Born December 6, 1971 (?))

Lifetime record (Through 2006) 36-28 5.13 ERA

Now that is what I call a $6 mil pitcher.

How about this guy?

a career NL pitcher, 69-75 lifetime record, 4.34 ERA, and he's expecting to make $8-10 million per year for 3 years.

Would you sign this guy?

Would you sign this guy?Say what you will about that ERA, but it's hard to look at his W-L Record considering the team(s) he played for...

Would you sign this guy?No, I wouldn't sign Matt Clement at the price he's going to get. The Angels are going to be sorry.
