CBS4's Dan Roche on WBZ-1030: "It appears he is set to leave the Red Sox... move has caught everyone by surprise."

ESPN's Crasnick Says Sox Going After Clement

Dec. 13 - "Now that Pedro Martinez is moving closer to leaving Boston for the Mets and Carl Pavano is about to sign with the Yankees, the Red Sox have jumped back hard into the Clement sweepstakes, reports Insider's Jerry Crasnick. The level of interest in Clement could lift him out of the three-year, $21 million to $22.5 million realm inhabited by Jaret Wright, Jon Lieber and Kris Benson and bring him a three-year deal in the range of $8 million to $9 million annually."

Pedro kept his word, he said he would not sign with the Yankees

Pedro reportedly doesn't pass up extra year

By Boston.com Staff *|* December 13, 2004

It appears Pedro Martinez has pitched his final game in a Red Sox uniform.

Indications this afternoon were that the Mets had added a guaranteed fourth year to their offer to Martinez, and, according to the Boston Herald, he has reportedly agreed on terms to a four-year contract to join New York. WBZ radio reported the deal was worth $50 million, while the Boston Herald reported it was $56 million.

That may be the best thing for the BoSox. There's no need to overpay for a guy that's declining fairly rapidly.

Me thinks Pedro likes the deal Kris Benson's wife has with the team.

4 years for Pedro? BIG time mistake. In 2 years the Mets will be stuck with yet another HORRIBLE contract. Maybe S. Sosa will be available then too with another bloated contract they will be able to trade him for.

I hear they're also getting Devon White, Scott Avery and Terry Pendleton.

LOL...

According to ESPN radio, Pedro Martinez's agent has told the Mets he doesn't want a shoulder MRI included in the right-hander's physical.
That had to be a great conversation. There's still time for this to all fall apart, but even if it does, there's no guarantee the Red Sox would be willing to take Pedro back (though he could accept arbitration if he wants). An MRI on Martinez's shoulder is sure to turn up some significant damage -- the Mets knew that going in. ESPN's Jayson Stark has a source telling him that Martinez has a 90 percent tear in his labrum

Remember, this is the GM who wants to build his team around S. Sosa. Not the brightest bulb in the pack.

Wasn't that said about Roger Clemens when he joined the Astros last year?

Didn't seem to slow down the Rocket.

Now, according to ESPN, the Mets may be looking at trying to trade for Manny. Yikes, they must love those big contracrs.

Do the Mets also get Pedro's mini-me, or is he Boston property?
