I think Kenny must have found him a deal on a Cell Phone Plan. What GM has to "run around" looking for the owner? Especially this time of year...

That was my initial thought as well, but it has been reported that JR will increase payroll if the right deal comes along and possibly, this is a deal where JR has to approve payroll increase before the deal can get done????????

It's probably nothing or a very small or stupid move. I'm hoping it's not, but I doubt it. If there's a move it's probably the Toronto deal. If KW does that, then I will no longer support him. A little OT, anyone know why my original SN was blocked from the forums? Did I do something wrong?

Not sure, but in general if you're blocked, SOP is to email the mods, not sign up with a new SN - IIRC that's against policy.

Here is rotoworld on Clement.

An undisclosed team jumped into the bidding for free agent Matt Clement yesterday.
"A new team I hadn't thought of jumped in," agent Barry Axelrod said. "Not one that traditionally has had wherewithal, but might in this case." Milwaukee? The Angels, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Indians, Diamondbacks and maybe the Cardinals have offered Clement deals. Axelrod said it was "his fondest hope" Clement would sign by Wednesday. It looks like it's going to take at least $27 million over three years and $40 million over four years can't be ruled out. Dec. 13 - 12:08 pm et:gulp:

I just got a call from the White Sox. It said, "Chicago White Sox" on the caller ID, so I picked up the phone and said, "Kenny, that deal to Milwaukee better include Ben Sheets." The lady sounded annoyed like she gets stuff like that all the time. To my suprise, it wasn't Kenny Williams, it was some woman asking me to renew my 9 game package.

I dont think Kenny said wait for a trade in 2 hours.

He said " I've been waiting for my maid for 2 hours" and wanted to find JR to complain about the hotel service.

The White Sox (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71590) and Brewers (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71594) are discussing a trade in which the Brewers (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71594) would acquire outfielder Carlos Lee (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85051) for outfielder Scott Podsednik (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85346), reliever Luis Vizcaino (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85293) and a third player that has not yet been agreed upon.

I've noticed that comments from KW and from Ozzie most recently have moved away from the general idea expressed regarding the "breakup of the nucleus" of the team. While they may not be outwardly discussing this in the press, I think their words have since been replaced with action. Maggs is gone. Valentin is gone. Carlos Lee and Paulie are heavily rumored to be traded before the 2005 season.

Would it be a big surprise if Carlos Lee was traded for Scott Podsednik and Keith Ginter (who could both be classified as "Grinders")?? I don't think so. And honestly, I don't see it as a crazy idea. Here is why... Carlos Lee, Paul Konerko, Magglio Ordonez, Jose Valentin and Frank Thomas have been the faces of the White Sox for the past 5+ seasons. Have they been successful? No. Should these players shoulder the blame? No. We haven't had a viable pitching staff during their years, or at least one that could compete with the "successful" teams in major league baseball.

As a Sox fan, I am willing to support any reasonable trade. Call me crazy, but before we organize a lynch mob and assemble outside USCF, reason with the possibilities of KW organizing a roster of roleplayers with an outstanding pitching staff. To play "Ozzie ball" you need these types of players.

I for one am willing to sacrifice single season run scoring records for a legitimate pitching staff and a viable playoff contending team. The current "score 30 runs one night and none the next" philosophy hasn't worked over the past 5+ years.

I would support Lee for Podsednik and Vizcaino ONLY if we also signed Matt Clement with the leftover $$$. We can't lose that much run production without gaining starting pitching to compensate.

How many Luis Vizcaino's have there been in baseball? Wasn't there one who was a middle IF? Also, aren't all Vizcaino's required to play at least half a season with the Cubs?

I gotta think this is going to happen. Only a matter of time. The addition of Vizcaino in the pen would make our bullpen really strong. I can't really say I like this trade, though. It depends on what follows it. If, let's say, we do the trade for Scotty Pods, Vizcaino, and Ginter, and then ink Clement, I wouldn't mind this trade. But if the trade doesn't lead to a pitcher being signed, I don't like it.

You are thinking of Jose Vizcaino, formerly of the Astros... was a FA, not sure where he signed. Wouldn't have minded it one bit i f the Sox had signed him, either. Doesn't hurt to have a veteran 2B/utility guy around whose name isn't Alomar.

I agree with you. Pods getting on base and then swiping second with Rowand for the big RBI sounds like a nice way to start the line up. I really don't want to see Caballo go, though...and if he does they DEFINITELY need to get one more SP.

So let's say this happens, how much do you want to wager that KW immediately contacts the Odalis Perez camp with the leftover payroll plus the money that was going to go towards bench players for a proposal?

That gives us a rotation of: Buerhle, Garcia, O. Perez, Garland, Contreras

With Hermanson, Cotts, Vizcaino, Takatsu, Politte and Marte in the pen...

And a lineup of

CF - Podsednik
LF - Rowand
DH - Thomas/Everett
1B - Konerko
RF - Dye
SS - Uribe
3B - Crede
2B - Ginter/Harris
C - Davis/Burke

With a bench of:
Everett (after Thomas comes back)
Valdez
T. Perez
Ginter/Harris
Davis/Burke

...I like it.
