And the solution White Sox (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=cha) GM Ken Williams figured out -- Javier Vazquez (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5947) to Chicago, Paul Konerko (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5908) and Jon Garland (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6396) to Arizona, Randy Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4288) to New York -- has apparently fallen apart, because Williams has yet to hear back. Then again it's from Peter Gammons, so take it for what's worth...

Ditto. But it would fit with Williams trade M.O. We'd be taking it in the can..... and the Sox still wouldn't have a 5th starter.

RJ is only tradeable to the yanks because they'll pay his contact extension demand. Right now NY is balking at the amount of money they'll have to eat. The key to this trade could be Pavano. It appears that Pedro will resign with the red sox. If they also are able to sign Pavano, King George will sell his family to obtain RJ. If Pavano signs with NY or another team the deal would change.

Unfortunately, you're right. It does fit Williams' M.O. He's generally traded pitcher for pitcher with Garcia being the loan exception. We need to keep Garland if for no other reason besides a 5th starter, being Contreras. Contreras has yet to consistantly keep is ERA below 5.00 and if he can't, we'll need a 4th and 5th starter.
