28 year old right fielder, career .810 OPS, lefty bat, made $700,000 last year.

Very interesting. My first thought was: He sucks, no way! But he actually get's on base at a pretty good clip (about .360 career) and could hit 20-25 homers if given a starting spot. That's not not all that much worse than Maggs (though his BA is lower and likely his Slugging %) considering that we'd be spending millions less. I say it's a good idea.

Yeah, I would hope this isn't the signings to end all signings this offseason, it would be a good pickup. You could then have him, Evertt, and Timo play RF. I was surprised he didn't do that well with the Cubs in '04.

Well, Grieve does walk alot. His RF is average at best though. However, for pennies he could be a guy who is quietly productive for a team like us. Heck with OBP he would hit for us. Even last yr he was on at a .368 clip...First on the team excluding Frank..

One problem is that his arm is remarkably weak in the OF. I understand that he still may be a bargain, though.

Wouldn't mind him at all in the #5 or #6 slot in the order.

Batting behind Frank, he might see some good pitches to hit and raise that Slg%.

Regardless of stats, this guy reminds me of Borchard. They both have "light-tower power", but they also have an uncanny ability to strike out. I think it would be in the best interest of the Sox to pass.

In my dream world, Timo would play RF everyday and Everett could DH until Frank comes back. I've always been impressed with Timo as an all-around player.

Grieve would be a decent bench bat and a major upgrade over Timo; Ozzie didn't work his magic with this latin player, unless we like a .285 OBP and .623 OPS; I think we can do a tad better if we try.

If we start settling for this crap, we'd think Babe Ruth was heading to the South Side if they get Dye.
