From MLB.com

Nov. 11 -- According to the Daily Southtown, Clement and agent Barry Axelrod have not heard anything from the Cubs. The team's exclusive negotiating rights with Clement end Friday. Axelrod said there is "actually more (outside) interest than I thought there would be. We've heard from eight to 10 teams, and three or four sound serious."

High risk, low reward. Pass.

Pretty good ERA, and no run support. Could be a servicable 4th or 5th guy. In turn you wouldn't have to give up PK or Gland

.229 opponents avg and a 3.34 ERA I would take that in a heartbeat.

He really seemed hurt at the end of last year. That being said, if the price is cheap enough (less than Vizquel:smile: ), I would defnitely consider it. He's pitched pretty well the last 3 years, and doesn't give up too many flyballs. It would be more like high risk (injury) high reward (duplicating last season's performance).

Arm injury waiting to happen for a career .500 pitcher is not a wise investment for the dollars he will be asking for.

That's what I said. No way you sign him for $6 million. I think Glendon Rusch is a F/A and he had a far better year then Clement and will not cost more then 1.5 million.

Take a look at his splits by month. Last year, he had a TERRIBLE second half.

Having the pleasure of working in a department full of Cubs fans, I've seen my share of Cubs games, and every game I've seen Clement has folded when the pressure was on. I wouldn't ever count on his as a 1-3 starter, but from the stuff that I've seen from him, I'd gladly accept him at the 4 or 5.

That being said, whatever happened to the anti ex-cub sentiment?

How much are we paying garland? Clement is much better of a pitcher than Garland! If you could get Clement for 6M a year, I think it would be worth it.

I posted a thread on the 2005 Sox payroll. Please check it out, it has all the players salary for 2005.

Clement vs Garland - AFTER THE ALL-STAR BREAK

Garland, 5-6, 5.44 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 102 IP - in the AL
Clement, 2-5, 5.09 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 63 IP - in the NL

I'm not so sure Clement is better than Garland at all. And I am sure that he isn't "much better".

I went to a Halloween party with Glendon Rusch. He is a nice guy.. He nearly passed out laughing when i showed him my White sox screen saver on my cell phone. I told him there was no possible way i could like him unless he signed with us.
