View Full Version : Wally Backman

Wally Backman was fired after being hired four days ago by the diamondbacks. And what do ya know, they mentioned he was part of the White Sox organization. What did he do for us? And was he screwing up while and/or before he was with us?

Backman actually did a tremendous job as the Birmingham manager for the Sox. The players swore by him (not at him) and he consistently got better results (i.e. the W/L record) then the talent he had available.

The guy has some personal issues...don't we all? But his problems apparently were back in 2001. I don't see how that should castrate him now.

Just before Manuel was fired, Backman supposedly called up Ron Gardenhire and told him to kick the **** out of the Sox in a late season series so he could nab Jerry's job.

I know Backman has disputed the claims (gee, what a surprise  ), but if it is the case, he's a classless prick and deservedly got fired from the Sox.
