Jody Gerut and Rob Mackowiak are both Sox fans, IIRC. Floyd is one, as well, but he has said that he'll never play for the Sox while Unky Jerry has his hands on the pursestrings.

You're absolutely right. He was willing to play for less money for the Chubbies, but Hee Seop Choi was clearly the better 1B at the time.

Myers, Rodney, New York Mets (Rockford)

My wife's best-friend was married to a guy that went to school with Rodney.

IIRC, he was even on the Rockford Cubbies for a little while before being called up to the bigs...

I remember hearing Cliff Floyd was a big sox fan growing up.He was, I'm hearing that he's headed to either the Cubs or the A's for next year. Which suprises me because he had said that he wouldn't play in Chicago or St. Louis.

Did not know Shawn Green was from Illinois. Shawn Green was born in the NW suburbs but his family moved to So Cal when he was very young IIRC. This list, which is informative, indicates where the ball player was born I think. Not necessarily where they grew up and played HS and sandlot ball.

I don't wanna burst any of your bubbles but what the hell does this prove? Are you telling me that players who were lifelong Sox fans will all of a sudden sign with the team just because of that? Did you guys know that Carlos Zambrano was a HUGE White Sox fan growing up and idolized Frank Thomas? He said it himself before a Cubs/Sox game. This doesnt prove anything. The only time these guys ever use the, "I've been a Sox fan since I was a little kid and now playing for them is a dream come true" speech is when they're all old and past their primes and the Sox overpay them.

It doesn't matter. It really doesn't. We as Sox fans just like to know who was like us and rooted for the Sox before signing with another team prevented them to do so. Is it so wrong that we like to know of other players that grew up rooting for the Sox? I don't think so. It's just a little bit of fun for us to find out. Every major league ballplayer grew up rooting for a specific team. We realize that not everyone can play for that team, but it would be cool to know if they were a White Sox fan.

Like I said, I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, I just wanted to know what the reason for this post was. And I got my answer from MUsoxfan, thank you for that.

And oh by the way MUsoxfan, when you commented "every player grew up cheering for a specific team", I don't think that holds true when talking about Alex Rodriguez. He's been a "lifelong Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, Mariners, Tokyo Giants fan" his whole life...
