I have no idea what to expect tonight.

But as a Red Sox fan I will "Keep The Faith"

Looking at the papers in both cities I would say New York is the scared city for once...... We shall see

You know I wanted the Yankees to beat the Red Sox, but the more I think about it it's like asking, "How would you rather die?" A.) Getting run over a car or B.) Being thrown off the Hancock building

I don't have the numbers available, but all three used to kill us all the time. Remember Beltran's blast in that first game this year in Kansas City?

If the Red Sox win it all that will leave just us and the cubs as the longest teams not to win a World Series, something Chicago can be proud of!!!

That day seems like a lifetime ago, considering that Beltran is on the verge of reaching the WS, the Royals had a horrible season, and the Sox... well, we know what happened there.

I don't care how much you want to drive a psychic stake into the heart of the Yankees...this is just plain stupid.

RKMeibalane
10-20-2004, 11:02 PM
Apparently he is.
I don't like this, either. Why risk an injury to one of your starters if you already have a big enough lead? I realize Francona probably wants to rest his bullpen, but the first game of the World Series isn't until Saturday. That's three whole days of rest that his relivers will get if the Red Sox hold on and win this game.

Jjav829

Back-to-back doubles. This move looks worse by the second. This is just a horrible move by Francona. He'd have been better off with Lowe for another inning. Hell, throw Ramiro Mendoza out there for an inning.

I agree. If Francona is looking to send a message by putting Pedro out there, he really shouldn't have bothered. The fact that the Red Sox are on the verge of becoming the first team in baseball history to come back from a 3-0 series deficit proves that they are the best team in the American League this season. There's no reason to risk losing Pedro to injury by sending him out there.

From a 7 run lead to a 5 run lead, just like that. It gets worse by the second. The absolute worst part about this is that this is the loudest the crowd has been all night. Horrible, horrible move.

Hypothetically speaking, if the Yankees were to somehow come back and win this game, I think it's almost a given that Terry Francona would be fired.

Getting fired would be the least of his problem. He'd be tarred and feathered....tonight.

Luckily he only gave up two runs. Francona's overmanaging didn't cost them, so far at least. I can't believe he'd be stupid enough to send Pedro out for a 2nd inning, so I'm sure Timlin will pitch the 8th.

LongLiveFisk
10-20-2004, 11:20 PM
Taking Lowe out the way he was dominating was stupid beyond comprehension. Francona better hope this one doesn't come back to bite him or he better never show his face in Boston again.

I didn't get that move at all. Pedro's not even a sure thing when he's rested.

But this game is in the bag. Babe Bellhorn just sealed their fate. It's all about momentum.

Why do these announcers keep saying the Red Sox will "earn their first trip to the World Series since 1986"? Is 1986 really that long a wait for an American League team? I mean, the Yankees are in every year. Certainly the Mariners, Rangers, Orioles, Devil Rays, and Tigers have either waited longer or never been there. Oh yeah, the White Sox haven't been there since 1959!!! Now that's a long drought!

The Tigers were last in the WS in 1984, which they won in five games, defeating the San Diego Padres.

The Orioles were last there in 1983. They defeated the Philadelphia Philles.

That's o.k. though. That's what makes it even funnier. Before the season, all the national and local media dopes, along with all the brain dead wrigleyville rats were predicting.....no, prophesising how the Cubs were gonna finally meet up again with the Red Sox in the World Series, and they would win it all. The cover of Sports Illustrated back in either March or April saying something to that affect comes to mind. Well, the Red Sox got there, but where are the Cubs ??!! Oh Yeah, they didn't even make the playoffs. :whiner: :whiner:

I wish to point out that both 1983 and 1984 are before 1986 and therefore the Orioles and Tigers have waited longer than Boston. As they say in politics, I stand by my earlier statement.

So I'm watching the ESPN post-game coverage with their little fan shots around Fenway. The Boston fan base looks very much similar to the trash parading around Wrigley, further cementing my hatred for the Red Sox.

I can't believe fenway tried to argue the lack of similarities between the Cubs and Boston.
