I came across a quote from Sox legend Jim Rivera. I didn't see it in the "Sox Quotables" portion of WSI, so I thought I would share it.

Rivera was commenting to President John F. Kennedy about his illegible autograph on a baseball on April 10th 1961 when JFK threw out the first pitch at the Sox-Senators game in D.C. (Sox 4-Senators 3.)

What kind of garbage college is that Harvard, where they don't even teach you to write. What kind of garbage writing is this? What is this garbage autograph? Do you think I can go into any tavern on Chicago's south side and really say the President of the United States signed this baseball for me. I'd be run off. Take this thing back and give me something besides your garbage autogarph. (JFK took the ball back and carefully wrote his name on it before giving it back.) Upon receipt of the ball Rivera replied: You know, you're all right.
