Can I use that on my own thread?

If anyone really cares, the Sox activated Scott Schoeneweis from the DL today.

Is there some reason (e.g., baseball rules, contract with the players' association, etc.) that it is beneficial for either the team or player that the player not be on the disabled list at the end of the season?

IIRC, he was on a one year contract and would like to show someone (Sox or anyone else interested) that he has recovered.
