A city official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Washington has been notified by Major League Baseball of the impending announcement that will return the national pastime to the nation's capital for the first time in 33 years.

The city is planning its own news conference at a downtown location Wednesday afternoon, the official said.

No, there will be no Wahington Senators. why? The Rangers retain ownership of the name "Washington Senators," baseball spokesman Carmine Tiso told the Associated Press after consulting with Ethan Orlinsky, a lawyer for Major League Baseball Properties, the sport's licensing division[QUOTE]

Thats bull...They should name them the washington rangers then. How can you own two team names?

Remember 'everything' is negotiable. Meaning money, money, money can solve the name problem.

I'm pretty sure it will be the Washington Angelo's per MLB's agreement with Baltimore. They also must lose the next 4 series against the birds too.

If the team isn't going to be named the "Senators", they might as well not even move them back there. Part of the allure of moving a team back to the capital, in my opinion, is to capitalize (no pun intended) on the tradition of the city. There should be no crazy new team name (Wizards, Federals, Etc). It should be, if anything, the SENATORS.

OR...

keep the Expos name in Washington to uphold the tradition of Montreal.

Baseball is 100% about tradition. Hopefully they don't F this up.

They'll probably move them to the Central and move St. Louis to the East and Houston to the West. Gotta get that Cubs team in the playoffs somehow!

Apparently there is a petition circulating to name them the Washington Grays, after an old Negro League team.

I'm all for honoring Negro League teams, especially by adopting their names, since they had some pretty awesome names, but Grays is simply not one of them.
