An article about the albatross SkyDome has become. FWIW, SkyDome cost 3 times as much to build as the Cell.

Geez, the place is only 15 years old and they talk about it like they can't wait to blow it up and start over. I'm sure the place hasn't even been paid for yet.

Skydome is heaven compared to this dump

ST. PETERSBURG - The woman running the Carvel ice cream machine is reading a paperback on the suite level. In the upper deck, ushers in their tropical- themed shirts are lonely sentinels. And the beer line. What beer line? Just walk up and order a tall, plastic cup of suds (http://rays.tbo.com/rays/MGBHDOELLZD.html)

Nice story in that linky. Note from that story that Rick Vaughn is the VP of Public Relations for the D-Rays. I always wondered what he did after he lost his heater from those Major League movies.

Good article. This illustrates the tremendous gap between the "haves" and "have nots" in Major League Baseball. Quite simply, the Rays have no chance to ever make it to the playoffs with no revenue or fanbase. Why did MLB feel the need to expand to Tampa Bay again?

Would that have been the pressure brought to bear by the investors in Trop Field, who were probably told by JR(et al) that the Sox were going to move to TB in the early '90s, before the State of Ill. blinked and built Comiskey ll. For years Trop Field sat empty, save for monster truck shows etc. Could Tampa resident, Steinbrenner have been a factor? Behind the scenes, you just never know. But you know there were law suits rumbling underneath it all. Quite possibly another challenge in the courts over anti-trust questions.

Possibly. However, many Sox fans feel that Reinsdorf never had any intention of moving the team to St. Pete and that it was just his way of getting the leverage he needed to cram the New Comiskey Park through the state legislature.
