View Full Version : Catalanotto Off the Market

Blue Jays signed outfielder Frank Catalanotto to a two-year, $5.4 million contract extention.

Catalanotto, who would have been eligible for free agency, is getting a raise from the $2.3 million he's making this season. It's rather surprising that the cash-strapped Blue Jays have decided to give a multiyear deal to a platoon corner outfielder with an 815 career OPS. We like Catalanotto, but he's 30, injury-prone and not an especially good defensive outfielder. This probably means that Gabe Gross will return to Triple-A next year. The Blue Jays should use a platoon of Catalanotto and Reed Johnson in left field.
