NY Daily News reporting that Art Howe is a goner (*tho the Mets haven't made it official yet). With the Phillies winning games again and teasing their fans with a faint hope for the Wild Card, could Howe be toast before Larry Bowa? :?:

The problem with firing Howe would be they would probably lose Rick Peterson as their pitching coach. He has a pretty good reputation, and has that staff tenth in baseball in ERA, which isn't bad, considering there's not a lot of very good pitchers there, and Kris Benson's ERA is over 5 since going there. He also coached in Oakland before with Howe- he may be like Dave Duncan with Tony LaRussa.

The plot thickens with Gary Carter sniffing around for a job that's not available yet. What is it with former Mets (Wally Backman?) who go about intriguing for managerial jobs in brazen and stupid ways?

And that Tim Tueffel- you never know what caper he's gonna pull next! As for Carter, I think he's been known as a moth, going wherever the camera light is shining, like Mark Grace, so it's not surprising he's acting like that.

It's official: HE GAWN, ALMOST!

The classless Mets organization has told Howe that he won't be back next season, but is too chicken**** to let the man leave with dignity. He's asking them to fire him cleanly if they plan to fire him anyway, but the Wilpons and GM Jim Duquette have basically left Howe to decide if he wants to save face and resign with 2 weeks left, or sit around like a lame duck and let the players manage themselves for 2 weeks. Totally classless. Howe deserved to be fired, no doubt, but he deserved to be fired properly, not like this.

yet bowa and guillen remain on baseballs other underachieving clubs...settle down guillen fans: ill give him a few years. His best player(maggs) and his third or 4th best player got hurt. His 3-4 hitters, but he still has made some mind-bogglingly dumb decisions this year
