View Full Version : A's fans littering the field

There was just a stoppage in play in Oakland as A's fans littered the field with trash following what they felt was a bad call. The game was delayed while an announcement was made over the PA to stop throwing trash on the field. As far as what happened to cause the trash throwing, Doug Mientkiewicz hit a blooper to short center. Mark Kotsay came on to try to make the catch. It was clearly a trap to anyone watching on TV. The umpire got the call right but Kotsay was upset. The fans, who didn't even have a good view of the play, decided that Kotsay was obviously right and started to throw trash on the field. To be fair, part of what led up to this was a brutal call in the bottom of the 8th inning. Oakland was down 1 and Kotsay hit a line drive to left field to lead off the inning. Manny dove to his right and clearly trapped the ball but the umps blew it and called it an out. So part of Kotsay's complaint stemmed from him getting robbed of a hit.

Interesting stuff though. Cubs fans aren't the only ones who like to throw trash on the field when they feel a bad call was made. I'm sure the fact that David Ortiz had just hit a bases clearing double to extend the Red Sox lead to 4 didn't help the fans mood either...

I hope this isn't the start a trend around the league. It's such a trashy thing to do.
