Ouch: White Sox relief pitcher Cliff Politte was a clubhouse visitor Saturday afternoon, three days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy at Rush University Medical Center. He credited his young son Drew for uncovering the seriousness of the situation.

While lying on his back at home Wednesday night, Drew jumped on his dad's stomach and dad realized right away something was amiss.

"It was tucked underneath my colon, which was acting like a tent and blocking everything," Politte said. "I've been saying it was lucky my son sat on me, or I would have thought it had been gas pains or being bloated."

Doctors used a scope to clear up the problem and in the process lessened the time Politte will be out of action. He hopes to be back for the final two weeks of the season. "If they had to cut I would have been out six to eight weeks," he said. "I was fortunate enough that I had a good guy with good hands on my side."
