This Date In Sox History 8/27

1959: Sox 5, Bost. 1 -On the same day the Pan American Track Meet opened in Chicago, Johnny Romano had three RBIís in the win over Boston. Barry Latman picked up the victory. The Sox were 76-49 and had a game and a half lead over Cleveland who they were going to play in a four game series starting the next night.

1977: Sox 7, Milw. 6 - Chet Lemonís three run home run in the 8th inning was the difference. Lerrin LaGrow got the win in relief of Francisco Barrios. At 72-54 the Sox trailed the Royals by only two games.

1981: Sox 3, N.Y. 1 (8) - Greg Luzinski had the big hit clouting a three run home run in the 8th inning right before the heavens opened up. LaMarr Hoyt took the win but Britt Burns was great allowing only three hits in seven innings of work.

1983: Sox 2, Bost. 1 - Ron Kittle banged out a two run home run for the Soxís only runs on the day but it was enough as LaMarr Hoyt tossed a complete game four hitter. The Sox were 71-57 and led the Royals by six and a half games.

2003: Sox 11 @ N.Y. 2 - For the second game in a row the Sox went into New York and torched Yankee pitching. They blasted three home runs, Roberto Alomar knocked in four and they had won 8 of 9. Bartolo Colon was the beneficiary of the support. The Sox were ready to go for the sweep...but Jerry Manuel had other ideas!

Frank hit the grand slam on August 26. I remember because that was my 21st birthday.
