This Date In Sox History 8/18

8-18-53: Sox 3, St.L. 2 AND Sox 2, St.L. 1 - Virgil ‘Fire’ Trucks and Sandy Consuegra combine to get the double header sweep of the Browns. Sox record is 72-46, still seven and a half games out.

8-18-54: Sox 4 @ Balt. 1 - Sandy Consuegra gets the win over the new Orioles franchise, it’s part of a career season for Sandy as he goes 16-3 with a 2.69 ERA. Sox record is 77-44 yet they are still nine games out and are in third place.

8-18-64: Sox 4, N.Y. 3 - Game #2 of the biggest four game series of the 60's goes to the Sox, just like game #1. Eddie Fisher got the win in relief of Gary Peters. The Sox were 73-47 and trailed Baltimore by a game and a half. Fisher by the way threw a great knuckleball and did a sensational Donald Duck!

8-18-91: Sox 11 @ N.Y. 3. Since Wilson Alvarez’s no hitter the Sox had gone 1-6 until they got seven runs in the second inning to put this game away early. Frank Thomas had a three run home run in the inning and had four RBI’s on the night. Greg Hibbard took advantage of the run support to get the win. Sox were 67-51 and three and a half behind Minnesota.

8-18-03: Sox 4, Ana. 2 - The Angels Jarrod Washburn had a no hitter going in the seventh inning. His first allowed hit was a two run game tying home run to Frank Thomas. Thomas then ended the game off Washburn in the 9th inning when he hit another two run home run. The Big Hurt accounted for all the Sox runs on the night. The Sox were 64-61 and trailed Kansas City by two games.

Actually, Washburn's first allowed hit was a single by Roberto Alomar. Otherwise, great job on this thread. Keep it up!
