This six game stretch at home is going to be important because we have some very favorable matchups and we're at home where we have done better all year anyways:

Tuesday: Garcia 6-2 3.67 vs Ledzema 2-0 2.53 (dont read too much into this ERA as in his 5 outings, he's never gone even 6 innings and it's a small sample size. 6 ERA last year)
Wednesday: Contreras 2-0 3.15 ERA vs Bonderman 6-9 5.81
Thursday: Garland 8-8 4.69 vs. Robertson 9-7 4.90

Friday: Buehrle 11-6 3.79 vs Arroyo 5-9 4.13
Saturday: Sox Callup vs. Derek Lowe 10-10 5.33
Sunday: Freddy Garcia 6-2 3.67 vs. Pedro Martinez 13-4 3.72

So we're favored in all Tigers matchups and the first Bosox matchup, unfavored on Saturday and pitching duel on Sunday.

I think Thursday's Tigers game is a toss-up at best. Robertson has the ability to get big strikeouts in the clutch, and Garland seems to have his worst outings at home.

Tuesday's starter scares me too. Ledezma seems to do well against us. I have the utmost confidence that Freddy Garcia will pitch really well, but I hope Ledezma doesn't have a stretch where he retires 10+ Sox batters in a row.

I thought we were getting Buehrle vs Schilling on Friday?

What a nice coincidence.

The first time we were on Fox Saturday baseball, it was Felix Diaz in the Urinal, and this next Saturday it's another callup. Fantastic.

I just want Bonderman to stay out there for more than 1 1/3 innings. Both times it seemed like the Sox were going to hammer him, and he was gone early.

According to Ozzie on Talking Baseball on Sunday, I believe it's:

Saturday 8/21: Freddy Garcia v. Derek Lowe
Sunday 8/22; Contreras v. Pedro Martinez

Seems we're skipping the #5 indefinately.

Well he more recently said that we're staying with the 5-man and we might call up Stewart, so I assumed that

If so, I don't know how that can be seen as a favorable matchup.

I hope that we're at a 4 man rotation until it's absolutely necessary that we use a #5 in a spot start. With the way our #5's have pitched, we really can't do much worse haveing #'s 1-4 on 3 days rest... IMHO

Yes it was, but we're talking about a pitcher who, A. Is going up against Freddy Garcia and B. Isn't as good as his numbers indicate,

It's a lot better to have 1 starter who is mediocre at best and a disaster at worst along with 4 pitchers who are aces and are decently rested then to have four overtired aces and nothing else.

I see what you are saying but neither Buehrle nor Garland certainly didn't look bad on 3 days rest.

No they didn't, but how well will they look after almost two months of pitching every time on three days rest with 100+ pitches? I dont want to see them going through every turn of the rotation as a 4-man. If Ozzie wants to set up the most favorable matchups possible for 3, maybe four big series this year that's fine, but going 4-man all the way from this point would be asking for trouble on many fronts.

Note: We were only 6-7 when we went to the 4-man rotation at the end of last year and three of those wins were meaningless ones against KC to end the year

This home stretch may really determine if we're in it for Sept or not. We need to start playing with some friggin consistency.

We need to show we can hit left-handed pitching too.

Maroth is pitching Tuesday, Ledezma is pitching Thursday.I checked again on CBS SPortsline and I came out not knowing the matchups because I've heard so many different things but I think it's Maroth on Tuesday and Robertson on Thursday

Wasnt the 5-0 pantsing of Jon "run away" Rauch against the Angels a saturday afternoon Fox game?
