Why PH Everett for Sandy? Sandy is a clutch guy who had been hitting all game? Yeah, CE hit it hard, but it just wasn't a good idea.

Season's over. I'm ready to admit it now. We can't beat KC at home with Buehrle pitching? Lose another series? My lord.

It so hard to let go of this season knowing that the Cubs are making their march towards the wild card and I have to wait 7 months to be excited about white sox baseball again.

AnkleSox
08-11-2004, 10:49 PM
Bases loaded, NOBODY OUT, and they score one freakin run. CLASSIC white sox baseball.

This season is over. The sox could go on another 2 or 3 game streak where their bats get hot, but as we should all realize by now, thats about the extent of it. They are the most inconsistent team that anyone even considers a contender.

Another 1-run loss. JR and KW have conceded the season. How ****ing sad is that?

Ozzie is absolutely spineless - his hitters do the same thing whether it's scoreless tie in the 1st or bases loaded, no outs, down by 3 in the 9th. Get a single to RF, 2 runs score and the tying run is at 3rd with no/1 out. But no, it has to be a Slam - they got Sportcenter on their minds.

how many times can you say patheticNot enough. I said before this series that we had to sweep. The Royals are just an awful team and even worse on the road. I'm pissed off about the 9th inning, but if you're going to score 1 run through 8 innings you deserve to lose.

If Carl Everett is going to be our right fielder next year, we are in trouble. Aside from his defense being bad, he looks old. I think we all assumed that getting out of Montreal was all he needed, but maybe those injuries are taking a toll on him. In comparison to last year, he just looks really old to me. I'll admit I was a fan of the acquisition. I thought it looked good for this year and next year. But at this point, he has to go before next season.

This is pretty freakin sad.

We have Darrell May your typical Royals terrible pitcher who suddenly becomes Cy Young.

Our hitters go up there chomping at the bit to hit the long home run. Fly out after fly out. And then of course the batting display of Joe Crede and Joe Borchard. At least 2 seconds late on the 85 mph fastball.

Another pitcher spotting the ball on the outside corner and our meathead hitters still think they can pull it for a home run.

Uribe in the 9th, no outs bases loaded and he is screwing himself into the ground trying to tag the homer. Sad.

Sandy calls a bad game. Mark Buerhle is a stud when he establishes the fastball inside to offset his change and curveball. Sandy was parked on the outside corner the whole game. And you knew what was coming. You could see the Royals hitters diving over the play to get to that pitch on the outside corner. Without Mark establishing the pitch on the inside corner people started to get good wood on the outside pitch and you have Sweeneys home run to right.

The terrible Royals know to take the ball on the outside corner to right field. The terrible Royals send down their All Star shortstop because he is hitting 249 this year. Yet we had a bunch of guys sub 250 in their BA's.

No heart.:dtroll:

.I'm pissed off about the 9th inning, but if you're going to score 1 run through 8 innings you deserve to lose. Against May at home? Truer words were never spoken.

That's the common theme in all these losses dating back to Garland's loss to Detroit at home: Sox do nothing in the first 3-4 innings; our pitchers can't handle the pressure to be perfect on every pitch in a scoreless game and cough up a few runs; now the opposing pitcher is more relaxed after being given a lead. We lose.

Detroit. Minnesota. Detroit. KC. Tribe. KC. 7 of our last 12 losses have been by 1 run and 3 more by 2. Manuel's teams never looked this bad - and his teams looked very bad at times!

The Twins have an extremely tough schedule. Now you should put your head through a brick wall.
That's true.

But we are 6 behind with only 50-some games to go.

The most frustrating part is knowing how damn catchable Minnesota is and how damn beatable Cle, Det and KC are....with just a couple of Lofton-esque upgrades and a 4-man rotation.....And yet also realizing that the reinforcements will never come and JR will allow this team to die one helluva slow death only 3 weeks after going on the air with Hawk and assuring everyone that money wasn't a problem.

It's easy to say now that this team wasn't gonna make it, but at that time we were leading the division and playing without Maggs/Thomas/Contreras to boot. Just get a big bat and take Hairston off Baltimore's hands or a similar deal to prop the ailing offense up a bit THEN and this team wouldn't have slid this low - how many 1-run and 2-run games did we lose since then? I shudder just thinking about it.

45?? Damn, that's a lot. I am not even a 3rd of the way there.

It was easier in 1999 - that rookie team was playing .500 ball for most of the year before running out of gas once Frank went on DL, but you KNEW they had no chance of beating the Indians.

2003 and 2004 teams - now that's heartbreak....sp close, so far.

Maybe the rest of the league is looking at the White Sox as the soft part of their schedule. Since the Sox are barely over .500, why should they be considered to be in the upper echelon of the league? Time to facts. They stink.

One would think that our pitiful record is an advantage when it comes to waiver deals since no team below us in AL is realistically competing for anything.

Too bad, Sox have no desire to make any more moves no matter how many glaring holes we have in the line-up, so it's moot.

That was very good!

And the Sox started the year 11-1 in one run games, they are now 19-14.

The only question left is can they get a winning record cause' everything else is dead and gone.

Lip you're absolutely right. A win total at about the 82 mark is the best we can look forward to.

Dick Allen and Misty - This is my 48th season following and rooting for the Sox. The last couple of years have made me weary beyond words. The only reason why I don't just up and quit is not out of any great character or loyalty. At this point I'm just too dumb and too numb to do anything about it. I wonder if there's any Sox fan alive that has any conscious memory whatsoever of the 1917 baseball season?

Gimm
08-11-2004, 11:56 PM
And what's amazing is the Cardinals playing .700+ ball in the last 2 months when in the beginning of the season, they started out with a team no better than ours - hell, they even choked at the end of 2003 just like the Sox did.

Last time I checked, Sweep > just winning a series. Whoo, we might win a series vs. the worst team in the league. Last year we could not beat Detroit consistently, this year, KC. Also, the whole Buerhle-gate Yankee stadium fiasco from last year was because of the old "we won the series already, who needs this game?" train of thought. We remember how well that worked out.

Anybody else at the game last night kinda in the back of their mind start rooting for the no-hitter with 2 out in the 6th and trailing by 4? Corpseball was in full effect and the chance of coming back was slim to none. At least I could have said I saw a no-hitter in person...instead I just saw another instance where this team laid down and died b/c they want to hit homeruns.

Shirley, you jest! I mean, Bob. I can't think of anything much worse than being at a game in which the Sox are no-hit.

At least it is something. Instead I got to see Juan Uribe try and hit a grand slam with the bases loaded and no one out in the ninth instead of just making some contact to (in Farmio's voice) keep the line moving. That pop up and the subsequent snuffing out of the rally was the epitome of this season. Got my hopes up just high enough to where it hurts when they drop me back to the ground. F this team. I am sick of it.

didnt we start the season like 12-1 in 1-run games???

Wonder what it is now?
Not good. Gee whiz, do ya think Maggs & Frank in the middle of the lineup make a small difference ? :(:

Last time I checked, Sweep > just winning a series. Whoo, we might win a series vs. the worst team in the league. Last year we could not beat Detroit consistently, this year, KC. Also, the whole Buerhle-gate Yankee stadium fiasco from last year was because of the old "we won the series already, who needs this game?" train of thought. We remember how well that worked out.
I completely forgot about that debacle. Wasn't that the ESPN Wednesday afternoon game ? Ghandi should've been canned for that decision alone.
