That's a tough one. Is this assuming a full recovery for Maggs? If not, it's dicey business...

As good as Ordonez is, Beltran is easily one of the top 5 players in baseball. This is an easy call-Beltran.

Beltran, if he doesn't hit .263 like he is in the hitter's park of Orange Juice Park.

Beltran hands down. It's a no-brainer.

i'm not sure that it's a no brainer. beltran has a better upside and plays defense depending how much you value that. but as a HITTER maggs has been consistently better and will probably sign for less $$$

As good as Ordonez is, Beltran is easily one of the top 5 players in baseball. This is an easy call-Beltran.Top 5 .. NO He is hitting .263 on the year and .235 since he joined Houston. He has never hit 30 hr. He is good, but he has not lived up to the hype. He is easily one of the top 5 nost over-rated players in the game. In no paticular order Players that are without a question better than Beltran. Even Konerko has better Numbers across the board.
1. Pujols
2. Bonds
3. Arod
4. Rolen
5. Tejada
6. Vlad
7. Ichiro
8. Maggs
9. Manny
10. Beltre

Whoa! Step back a little people. Beltran is getting NOTHING to hit in Houston. Their whole team is basically garbage outside of Berkman this year. If anything, he is pressing because he is swinging at alot of bad pitches.

Carlos Beltran is a 5 tool player, Magglio is not. He is also just 27 years old.

I don't know if he's a top 5 "player," but he's at least arguably a top 5 "all-around position player." To the extent that AVE means a damn thing, his career AVE is .284. He also walks at a decent clip, has pretty good power, steals bases at will, plays a very good CF, and is a legitimate switch-hitter entering the prime of his career.

That said, there's no way JR pens a big-money contract with Boras.
