Harden vs Lohse in the finale of the four game set up at the baggydome. Let's go A's!

Isn't this all irrelevant now? Probably so, but I shall still root for the A's.

Not to be a homer about it, but no, it's not irrelevant! I don't think it's very likely at all that they'll even make it really interesting, but it's certainly possible enough that I'm keeping an eye on the game and rooting for the A's... let's go Sox, close that gap!

If it's possible for the White Sox to fall from half a game up to 7 games back in two weeks, it's possible for the reverse to happen in 2 months.

Top 5, score tied 1-1. No outs, man on 2 for Oakland.

A's finally get on the scoreboard in the 5th with an Adam Melhuse double, scoring Scutaro. 1-1 tie runner on 2nd none away

I was thinking the exact same line of thought last night.

Twins get the DP, but the A's score the go ahead run

HomeFish

Wow. I'll give it to them, the Twins really know how to get out of jams. Only 2 runs allowed on that.

The A's need to make Lohse pay for all these walks. So far they have not been sucessful in doing so.

The A's need to make Lohse pay for all these walks. So far they have not been sucessful in doing so. Well they did force the already stressed Twins bullpen to throw at least 2.2 innings...

In other news the A's have bases loaded one out...

Sac FLy and it's 4-2 A's!

Twins announcers keep bringing up bad memories for the A's such as Jeremy Giambi not sliding in the playoffs last year. Man do they talk a lot of smack

Against the Twins, that's basically a tie game.

And with Dotel as the closer for Oakland....

Texas lost, the sox are 3 behind anaheim and texas in the loss column and 4 behind the bosox in the loss column.

I'm watching this game on my directtv package and Burt and his sidekick are at it again. They are talking about the Sox on how they want to be like the Twins but don't have the personnel. And that they have no team chemistry and that their will be an overhaul to get the players that Ozzie wants. No source specified just an overhaul.

A's score another on a wild pitch by Jesse Crain 5-2 A's

And the A's have broken it open, they're up 7-2 now with 2nd and third none out in the 8th

Who knows, maybe losing that 18 inning game will be the thing to send them into a tailspin for a bit. Their bullpen is getting overworked badly right now.

8-2 on a bloop single

8-2, bases loaded, one out.

I think a comeback is a tall order here, even for the Twins.

But isn't this really like a 3 run deficit for them?

I watched/listened to the final three games of the series. Both teams played very well. The A's seem to be getting it together. If Eric Byrnes can stay focused, and if Bobby Crosby's injury isn't serious, the offense should be fine (even without a decent second baseman). Rich Harden has really stepped up this season, pitching better than both Mark Redman and Barry Zito. As Redman continues to get better, the only hole in the rotation is Barry Zito (and, at worst, he's a league-average pitcher). Zito has been working on a new pitch (two-seam fastball), so that should help him as the season moves along. The bullpen, which had been giving the A's trouble for most of the year, was probably the key to winning this series (Dotel notwithstanding). Jason Duchscherer was amazing on Sunday, pitching four innings of scoreless work. Hammond, Bradford, Rincon, and Mecir are all returning to their career norms. Dotel's been... erratic with the A's so far. He reminds me of pre-2003 Billy Koch, but I think he'll settle down sooner or later (he's been bothered by back problems, so that may be hurting him a bit). The Rangers played rather badly in Baltimore this weekend, and as an A's fan, I'm more worried about the Angels.

I think the Twins played well, even though they only took one of four from Oakland. Santana remains dominant, and is arguably the best starter in the AL. Radke, Silva, and Santana have been very good, and Lohse has been acceptable for a fifth starter, but they really need to find another starter. Joe Nathan's been one of the best relievers in baseball, and Rincon's good, but aside from that, the Twins have nobody of note in the pen (Fultz has given them 40+ quality innings I guess and Romero hasn't sucked). Offensively, they really need Mauer back because Henry Blanco is a black hole hitting-wise (neither Guzman, Rivas, nor Jones are hitting well, but not as bad as Blanco). Playing Lew Ford and Justin Morneau everyday has been a big boost towards their offensive production.

If Mags and Thomas were in the line-up at this time (being 5.5 games back), I'd say we definitely have a shot at overtaking the Twins (obviously). Even without these two, the Sox still have a somewhat-good shot if both Ford and Silva collapse, and Mauer regresses a bit after returning. Still, it'll be real hard taking the division when Ben Davis and Timo Perez are integral members of the offense.
