Is the question over a career or at this moment. Over a career, I would go with Champ, right now Chump

I meant in the immediate, not what you think of his career.

Last year he looked like he was putting in time to get a (pretty small) paycheck. For about 10 years IMHO he was the best 2B in the business & a sure HOF-er, but because of injury or lack of interest or whatever he's sucked since going to the Mets.

He's hittin' a tad over .300 in thirty-something games for a crummy team. I'll take it....whatever.....and if we're further back in a month, release him and let Willie play everyday.

Last year he was sloppy playing defense, with far less range than either of our present 2d basemen. As a hitter, we was of limited value. I expect the same this year.

In 1993, he was a champ. Maybe the best player in baseball next to Barry Bonds.

In 2004, an absolute chump. He no longer works hard in the offseason, is apathetic about winning since he has two rings, and is only hanging on to get his 3,000th hit.

YOU GUYS HANG OUT IN THE OFF-SEASON?

If you add up champ and reasonable acquisition, it outscores chump and chimp combined, saying there's a bare net positive feeling on the WSI poll for the return of Robbie, may he teach Sox batters bunting!

Can he really hurt us at this point? That's all I'm looking for right now. As long as he doesn't do any worse than Willie then whatever. Bring him on.

Alomar was a chump in his prime. He just happens to be a chump past his prime now.
