I have no idea how Frank is progressing in recovering from his foot surgery, but let's assume he comes back in 10 days.

Does this alter any of the pessimism here to any significant extent?

Yes, if healthy adding Frank would be a bigger shot in the arm then anything Kenny could trade for.

Just having Frank in the lineupwould be huge beyond words(we never could win without that guy),but its not going to happen.
Hes' just to big and old to come back that fast, but what the hey you never know, offer up a few cigars and shots of rum to JO-BOO and see what happens.

It makes a huge difference (assuming he's healthy). If we're <5-6 out, we have a real shot. If we're 7 or more out, it's still a big longshot, but there's a chance. If we're 7 our on 8/15 and neither he or Maggs is coming back, even I will say we're done.

Wont happen for another 4 weeks at least, then rehab....

If we're within 3 or 4 games by the time the 2 Minnesota series roll around, and we get him back in the lineup, it's very good news.

We need the Twinkies to get into a 10 game losing streak or something.

Well, its very likely they could go 0-6 against the Yankees.

He won't be doing a rehab assignment. The minor league season will be over in less than four weeks.

That would mean Alomar couldn't DH, and I guess - oh no, that means Willie would be on the bench.

I'm a Frank fan and all, but he's no longer the key to this team. The key is Ordonez.

Anybody know what our record is with Ordonez and without him?

They own the Twins, so you got to expect best case for them is 2-4. We go 6-0 (it's possible) that is a 4 game pickup in less than a week.

Well the guy that actually has a chance of coming back this year is Thomas, so no reason to cry over spilled milk.

The Daily Southtown is reporting that Frank will have a CAT scan sometime this week on his left foot to check for any healing.

Put the big heal on the Big Hurt's hurt heel, and we are back in business.

Frank didn't have surgery... he's just been in a boot. I think he'll be back right at the end of the month.

That is GREAT news. I hope you're right. Having him back for the entire month of September would be terrific.

In my ASB05 franchise team, Thomas also went down with a foot problem. Conspiracy!

I think Magglio has a chance too, though. The question is when in September.

I don't know what the Sox record is with Maggs, but I did find these two pieces of information.

Without Ordonez: 23-27 (.460)

Without Thomas: 14-16 (.480)

Explanation: The "Without Ordonez" record includes every game he has missed since May 25. The "Without Thomas" record includes every game he has missed this season, including the three-game series with the Yankees in April, when he was sidelined with a pulled hamstring. I also included the two games in Montreal that he missed when he originally injured his foot.

I've been holding out hope that he'll be back in time for my birthday (August 26).

Truly, honestly, I don't know. My gut says you are. But it's been wrong before... once.

IIRC, Williams told reporters that Frank would be re-evaluated following the conlclusion of the Royals series. We should expect to hear something by tomorrow at the latest.

I agree. This sucks. Now, we have to wait until Spring Training to see Frank hit again. That means I'll be doing without one of my favorite sports-related activities.
