Is it just me, or did Hawk and the Fiesty One seem to have the attention spans of 7 year olds last night? One of the reasons I enjoy Hawk is because he usually has great baseball stories to go with whatever is happening with the Sox, but last night I swear they were just going goofy by the middle innings. Did anyone catch DJ talking to someone else in the booth on the air? it was histarical. The baseball jargon was thru the roof, Hawk seemed to ignore everything DJ said, although thats pretty common, they repeated comments on E-Lo and JC multiple times, and I even caught them having Santo-Like moments inserting "ouuuus," and "ahhhhs," where they should have been commentating on the game. I know the game was a blow out and they were in the always exciting Kauffman Stadium, but c'mon boys...

My favorite from last night was when Rowand was up with a man on third, and DJ said that if he didn't get an RBI, he was going to eat the piece of paper that was in front of him.

Might take me a few innings to finish it though." :?:

What about the George brett Hemmeroids comment... The paper was classic, you could hear hawk hand it to him and under his breath say, "here" after rowand struck out... There was another one that I can't remember,

The was also a VERY subtle cut a moronotti again I wonder if any one else caught it? I can't remember what was said but I think it was in the paper eating inning.

What about the "early-90's/after-early-90's" comment?

LOL, Hawk is senile, DJ is an incompetent baffoon. It's great!

The "early 90's/after early 90's" comment was priceless. I think even Hawk knew it sounded stupid as soon as he said it.

Gang, we are blessed -- BLESSED -- to have two truly entertaining freaks doing Sox commentary. I follow the Sox in Canada via the Extra Innings cable package and about half of the time I'm stuck having to watch the broadcast of the opposing team's network. Words cannot describe how BORING the KC commentary crew is. I was left to yell the "put it on the board" call for every Sox homer just to keep from falling asleep. Other teams like Detroit, Cleveland, Seattle, Toronto, etc have EXCRUCIATINGLY COLOURLESS AND DULL commentators.

Hawk & DJ might be awkward, childish, silly, meandering, and distracted, but they are also very funny and entertaining.

I agree, we are blessed. I think the lop sided game may have caused Hawk and DJ to lose focus. But we all know how AMAZING those two are in dramatic games.

GAME!!!

If you count Rooney and Farmio, we might have the best 4 announcers in the bigs. Strechhhhhhhhh

I missed last night's broadcast too, but I think that Hawk and DJ are pretty good, due to their enthusiasm AND their buffoonery. Every broadcast team has it's quirks, but face it, most of them are dull and bland--strictly paid voiceovers for the team. Say what you will about them, but they're genuine and entertaining...they enhance folowing the Sox.

I agree about that Extra Innings comment - I absolutely HATE listening to other teams' broadcasters, esp when the sox play the Red sox or Yanks - the stupid DirecTV people never pick the Sox feed - it's ALWAYS the east coast feed. I used to hate Hawk when I lived in Chicago, but now I love him.

Oh for sure...

The Sox radio guys are top notch. Hawk & DJ at times are kinda bland and boring on routine plays but when theres a great game going on they are very good. I think the most exciting call was the Saturday when Crede hit the game winner in the bottom of the ninth.

I got shivers listening to their excitement. Man...can you imagine when the Sox clinch the AL Pennant what the electricity will be in the TV & Radio booth...

Hawk will probaly be dead by then, Famer will be wearing socks, and Dj still won't know what's going on.

Agreed! I was stuck with the KC announcers on Extra Innings last night too, and they were horrible! Besides being incredibly boring, they were flat-out wrong half the time, too. Among other mistakes, here's a few I noticed:

Apparently the Sox are 30-21 at home and 29-22 on the road. Not bad!
Before the Sox lost 7 in a row, they weren't far behind the Twins.
Carlos Lee is just now 'finding his niche' with the Sox.

Add the Commodore 64-quality computer graphics to the broadcast, and it was really pretty sad. Good thing the game kept my spirits up!

Speaking of the stupid Detroit anouncers. During sunday's game in the 6th inning, when Adkins was warming up in the bullpen, Detroit's color announcer (Rod Allen) said "Well the Loaiza just left so maybe they're warming him up to put him into the rotation...just a thought":?: :?:

Hey moron, get a clue!

For me, nothing ever beats the time during the Cubs-Sox game this year when DJ made some comment and Hawk said "Sorry, I wasn't listening." Now that is priceless!

DJ was going on and on about execution and trying to rate the team in certain areas, and finally asked Hawk what he thought.

:hawk
"You'll have to excuse me DJ, I was listening to something..." (and then just trailed off). I THINK that's what he actually said. Anyway, it was priceless.

Hawk's new thing is answering one of DJ's long, weighty baseball questions with one word answers.

DJ: So Hawk, when you were playing the game, did you ever see...
Hawk: Uh, No.

DJ: I remember doing that a couple of times in career, did you?
Hawk: Never.

Hawk, gotta love him.

Exactly! I think they flip-flopped the away win-loss record - or something like that, anyway.

And it looks like I'm stuck with the stupid KC announcers again tonight, so who knows what other gems thay'll come up with...

BTW, what's with Hawk's stylin' gangsta shades during the pre-game intro? He explained it when he wore them for the first time, but it's been over a week and he's still wearing them. What's the story behind it?

Anybody hear Hawk get pissed at Brian Anderson yesterday in the 3rd inning? Anderson was having trouble with the signs from the catcher so he called him out to the mound, and Hawk said:

If you had to announce a stinker like last night's game (over in the first inning), you'd have trouble filling all the dead time too. "Well, we're only nine runs down; boy if we can just get the leadoff hitter on, that would be a good start and maybe we can get back in this one" just ain't gonna cut it. Gotta fill the time with something. At least with a rain delay, you can break away from the game. Last night's game was the equivilent of a two-hour rain delay in terms of entertainment value and the announcers had to hang in there the whole time saying something, anything. Of course it didn't all work. Could you imagine how nauseating the Chimp would be under those circumstances (of course, if it were the Cubs down nine runs, maybe I could deal with it) :redneck

-Hawk on the air, August 5th, 2004.

Combined with his Grienkie-stinkie comment, also on air tonight......Is this guy going senile? DJ is the supposed to be the juvenile/unprofessional one....right?

But as Baby_Fisk put it, they are entertaining freaks if nothing else.:bandance: :redneck
