I just got my hands on a new Sox book today called "Chicago White Sox - 1959 And Beyond."

The book by Sox fan Dan Helpingstein (through Arcadia Press), takes a look at the great and not so great moments in the history of the franchise since the last World Series appearance.

The photographs alone make this book worthwhile in my opinion. Iíve never seen some of them before. Adding icing to the cake are the recollections of some great moments by the guys who helped make them, Sox players like Pete Ward, Jack McDowell, Joe Horlen, Bill Melton and Donny Pall. Former Sox G.M. Roland Hemond also contributed memories along with some fans.

Itís his second book on the Sox... the first one being "Through Hope And Despair."

Anyway if you are looking for a good sports read, this is the book for you.

From what I understand, the book is not yet available through Borders, Barnes and Noble or Amazon. It will be soon, but I don't know when. Currently it is at Miles Books in Highland, contact is Jim Roumbos at 219-838-8700. His e-mail is miles1@jorsm.com. It is also available at the Grandstand by the ballpark at 773-927-1984, contact, Rosemary Powers, Sandmeyer's Bookstore, contact is Ulrich Sandmeyer at 773-922-9104, the City Newstand, 773-545-7377, contact Joe Angelastri, and at the Chicago Historical Society at 312-642-4600, contact Jennifer Vina. Since I live close to the Miles Books, you can tell Jim if you want is signed and I'll get down there to do that. Thanks for the interest.

City Newsstand is right by parents over at Six Corners; Cicero, Irving Park, Millwaukee. Suprise they are selling a Sox book in that part of town.
