I'm drinking a damn MGD. Somebody forgot to buy decent beer today. I hope we both see many more of these damn birthdays! :)

Hey why hasn't this thread been made a sticky yet? Your not waiting for everyone to go to sleep so you can delete it are you?

FarWestChicago

No, it's XLIV. Crap, now I'm all confused. I don't remember how the damn things work. I was happy when movies switched to normal dates.

No, it's XLIV OK, now I remember. The X subtracts from the L and you add the IV. No wonder why their empire fell.

(X(10)-L(50))+(I(1)-V(5))=44

or something like that.

would be much easier using these letters:

fossilized :)

Or even worse, a pop-behind, that hides until you start shutting down!

Nellie your knowledge of pop ups is unsettling, you should stay away from the porn sites from now on. :)

Oh and yeh happy birthday FWC, I can't think of anything witty/insulting to say so I'll just leave it at that.

I took a Classics course on the Roman Empire back in the day. (This was before the time of pc's for you whipper snappers). The professor was asked the obvious question, "Why did the Roman Empire fall?" He answered, "The proper question should be 'Why did the Roman Empire last so long.'"

There was an audible "ooooh" from the undergrads.

I = 1
V = 5
L = 10
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000

Roman numerals are arranged largest to smallest value, UNLESS you are subtracting from the subsequent numeral. Thus 1957 (FWC's year of birth) would be...

MCMLVII

Knowing this information comes in handy dating old films.

How do you say "Happy Birthday, West" in Pig Latin?

:)

The use of Roman numerals in film credits led to the coinage "meccamalize" -- to determine the year a movie was made (from MCML . . . . ). Doesn't work now, though, since MM. Maybe that's why many films have switched.

Happy Birthday from a newcomer who likes your site.

BTW, Hawk is not going to let anyone forget that Glover should have a shutout right now except for that botched rundown.

Hey West, Happy Birthday sir. I've been kind of scarce around here lately, oh the joys of being an engineering major. But I still read up on what everyone says every night. Thanks for keeping this place great!
