Why arent the SOX doing the Same? The Twinks know how to hit and run,
and AUTOMATICALLY take the extra base to 3rd on Every Hit. Simple groundouts become runs. Our station to station offense has to LEARN
to do the same.

We WERE doing the same back when we were taking 3 of 3 and 3 of 4 from the Twins.

Why? So we can strand runners on third with under 2 outs more often?

It also seems like our outfielders can't throw anybody out at third while it is done to us.

Everytime we hit and run we seem to foul the pitches off or not get the hit. Its called execution. You have to get a hit when you hit and run, not a flyout. The twins are experts at seeing eye singles and baseknocks, not doubles and HR's. Teams are built to execute differently. If we were healthy our stlye would crush theirs, howerver we have to try and play like them now, and were just not as good as them at it.

Little things mean a lot.

I think the fans can get a better idea of what's going to happen under Ozzie in the next few years.

Maggs is probably not coming back or if he does it might be on a one year incentive laden deal, Thomas is going to be 36, Konerko and Lee will be free agents soon.

Eventually the big guns are going to leave for big money and we'll see how Ozzie compensates for it and what pieces and types of players are acquired.

I tend to think the style of this team will be very different in three years time.

I agree with you Hangar, but who exactly can run like this? Paulie? Crede? Burke? Alomar? Everett? This is one sloooooow team. Uribe, Timo and Rowand are a little faster, but they don't get reat jumps all the time. Carlos Lee is just about the dumbest baserunner in the league. The two guys that CAN run- Wee Willie and Borchard, can't get on first base to begin with. So really, the only great baserunner we have is Jose.

On top of that there is one other huge issue with this: the Sox only hit pop ups!!!!!!! You can't advance bases on pop ups anyway.

Its discouraging to see the Twinks score runs like this, and we get on,
were striking out, popping up, so noone can advance

It's called "Team Speed" and smart baserunners. Outside of Willie, and maybe Rowand/Uribe, We don't have team speed and Jose is the only real "smart baserunner" we have. This team is the same team as the past couple years, waiting on 3-run HR's, hitting into a ton of DP's, and hitting solo HR's.

well, earl weaver, one of the greatest managers ever, disagrees with you:

Weaver: "Team speed, for Chrissake, you get f------ goddam little fleas on the bases getting picked off trying to steal, getting thrown out, taking runs away from you, get them big c---s------ who can hit the f------ ball out of the f------ ballpark and you can't make any goddam mistakes. "

Earl Weaver also had four 20 game winners on his pitching staff in 1971, a bunch of Cy Young Award winners (Palmer, Flanagan, Stone to name a few...) and enough 'Gold' Gloves to stock Fort Knox. (aka Aparicio, Blair, Johnson, Belanger, B. Robinson)

You can afford to sit back and wait for a three run home run when you have a pretty good idea that the other team is only going to be getting two or three runs on average.

The Sox outfielders allow a lot of this by throwing to the wrong base for runners they can't possibly throw out. They give their opponents way more bases than they should that way.

Carlos is also both fast and a decent base runner. He gets a lazy jump out of the box - watches too many of his balls - but on the basepaths he is ok.

Except when he's getting picked off or attempting to steal 3rd base with the tying run at the plate and less then two outs.

Outside of those little things, he's a great baserunner!

:rolling:

Seriously though, I just know that if let's say Aaron is on first, someone hits a single he goes for third and is throw out, everyone would be up in arms about it. "What the F are you doing Aaron?!" etc.

It just never ends.
