Guillen talks to veterans: Guillen held a brief talk with some of the veteran Sox players before Wednesday's game, stressing the importance of leadership as the team prepares for the stretch run.

"It's time for the veterans to step up and talk to the kids and teach them how to play the game," Guillen told reporters. "From now on, it's not about stats, it's not about money, it's about winning. And if we don't do [the little things], no matter what kind of talent [general manager] Kenny [Williams] brings in, we're not going to win."

Guillen emphasized that the conversation wasn't a formal meeting, just a casual talk about what needs to be done to be successful. "I said, 'Make sure you talk to the kid next to you,'" Guillen said. "'If you see them doing something wrong, go after them.' [Young players] think talent is going to win the pennant race. Talent don't win the pennant race. Unity, teamwork, preparing yourself physically and mentally every day ... that's how you win the pennant race."
