One team is in 1st Place and beat a firstplace team last nite. Another team
lost last nite, and is 9 games out. Guess who has been the topic for since
the 6am Hour, 2 1/2 hours now? yup, the northside team. Freaking Brutal.
Murph has twice, taken a caller, then changed the subject back to the Cubs.
At the 7am hour, Murph actually said "1st place Sox Fans.........dont worry
were gonna talk SOX this hour........." then changed the subject back to WendellKim.
Im absolutely APALLED by the blatant IGNORING of the 1st Place team.
They are breaking down plays, playing soundbites, every single part of the game is being broke down .............NO SOX. He has also REHASHED
every play about 3 times now, so as to avoid talking about the SOX.
Also amazing, is the amount
of Coverage the 2nd place team is gettingin the press today .........

Cubune:
7 cub stories
3 sox stories
Cub-Times:
6 cub stories
3 sox stories.
Standings since Spring Training ................
CUBS 1129
SOX 817

Don't worry Hanger, this story will change. There will be a headline,

By the end of July:

"4th Place LL's make a dramatic last minute trade for Jaime Navarro/Fred McGriff/Jose Canseco."

End of August:
"Cobs remain in contention with dramatic double-header loss to Expos, only 8 games out of wild card."

End of Sept:
"It's come down to the last game of the season, once again. Who will it be, Arizona/Montreal/Cobz, for #1 draft pick?

I didn't catch one mention of the White Sox in my sampling of the Score this morning, getting ready for work.

And I'll not hold my breath waiting for Wally Jacobsen, Lester Munson, Mark Suppelsa and the Moron to give one iota of press to the insane brawl in the Wrigley bleachers last night...Gee, I wonder why there's constant violence at and around Wrigley Field of late?

Is it because, to paraphrase Batboy Wally, "CUB FANS GET SO FRUSTRATED, BECAUSE THEY'RE ALWAYS LOSING"?

You can call it whatever you want, but I'm pretty sure you're not bringing anything new to the table here. Everyone pretty much knows whats going on with the cub love, and the murphy cub-fest. You aren't bringing anything but sour grapes and complaints. You can call it anything you want, but it to them, it just means money. You are contributing to their cubdom. hey, about the newsmedia watch article ratio- even though there are more cub stories in todays paper, they are mostly negative (zambrano's dumbass antics, the classy cardinals, which are my 2nd fav. team right now), which to me is good, right?

the cubune even has an article about safety issues at wrigley.

and even moronotti is bashing the cubs in the cub-times!
now, i definitely believe that there is a relatively large media bias in this town, but on a day like today, with all the cub bashing (and lets face it, the cubs-cards game was a lot more entertaining than our 12-6 throttling of texas), i kind of like it...

am i wrong?

I don't think its any secret they rule the market, including the Sports Radio market, and you are one day gonna figure this out. IT IS a bigger story about the collapse of the Cubs. Maybe cause you live on the southside you don't see this, but it is. When they fall out of contention, the Sox talk rise, and the cub talk will die down.
How about this analogy. Being jewish, I get real annoyed by all the christmas stuff that goes on around December, but I don't sit and complain about all the Christmas programming. I actually watch the Christmas programming, like you listen to the score. When someone says Merry Christmas to me, I say "you too." Sure they will...Jerks.

But then again...thats good for us Sox fans.

Oh yeah...Silvy on the Loop says that once the Cubs are at home watching the Sox in the playoffs that the Chicago Media will still find a way to add the Cubs to their print/radio time. Jay M of course says well fans will still be interested to know what the Scrubs will be doing for NEXT season. Geez...

B.S.

All Sox fans want is somewhat equal time. Sure, the Flubs failing in such spectacular fashion against the team directly above them in the standings is newsworthy. But so is the story of the Sox regaining their offensive stroke, Schoeneweis pitching a gem, and Carl Everett coming back and hitting a homer in his first game back. We've heard almost NONE of that today on the radio.

Today isn't an isolated case, either; there is a historical bias against our team. And you know what? To all those that say "the Cubs only get more coverage because they're more popular," ever stop to think that maybe the reason the Flubs are more popular is because the freaking media can't stop talking about them at the expense of the Sox?

I mean, it's not like the numbers are all that overwhelming either. Attendance-wise it's about 60-40. You sure wouldn't know that listening to Mike Murphy.

Geez...
You better believe that when the Cubs are eliminated from playoff contention that they will still command a sizeable portion of the media attention in Chicago. It will be all about the Cubs meltdown, how they couldn't handle the pressure, how the injuries hurt them, how the couches hurt them, how they are a dissappointment, and what will they do next year. Look what you have now: A team struggling to stay in the wild card race with over two months left in the season getting more attention than a team in 1st Place! Does it make any sense? The Sox crush Texas last night, and that story is relegated to 2nd place by the sinking ship that is the Cubs season.

The problem I have with Hangar's point of views is 1) He makes it sound like all cub fans are led by what they read in the papers or hear on radio, like the media is some end all be all. Don't get me wrong people read....listen all the time, but they do not take it as serious as Hangar thinks. 2) As we all do, I have friends that are cub fans and none of them are the kind that Hangar makes "all cub" fans out to be, they have been cub fans and baseball fans since they were 5 years old - (although I feel sorry for them and wonder what went wrong) I still respect them for being fans. Hangar takes the cub thing way to serious, end of story. Cheer for the sox hangar and the rest will take care of itself.

One wonders when the Scrubs are eliminated from any playoff contention will they all jump on the winning Sox bandwagon and make believe that they were equal with Sox/Cubs on air coverage.

Sure they will...Jerks.

But then again...thats good for us Sox fans.

Oh yeah...Silvy on the Loop says that once the Cubs are at home watching the Sox in the playoffs that the Chicago Media will still find a way to add the Cubs to their print/radio time. I doubt it, unless this team wins a World Series we'll never get the coverage that we deserve.

I just looked at Moronotti's column. Man, did one of you folks ghost-write this and hack into the Cub-Times website? Among the subjects touched on in machine gun style:

- Zambrano is an ass
- Cardinal players are class acts
- Cubs won't win crap this season
- Cubs can't hit reliably
- Cubs can't win 1-run games
- Cubs have no leadoff hitter
- Sammy isn't earning his millions
- Cubs grumble about the media
- GM Hendry is asleep at the switch
- Wrigleyville is synonymous with beer drinking
- Dusty leaves pitchers in games too long
- Dusty blames others for losing
- "It's the Cardinals year, without question."
- Wendell Kim sucks
- Cubs already looking to next year?

Wild.

I wonder what Cub fans think of this guy?:moron
I'm just trying to get on the Sox bandwagon. From what I hear from this "Hangar18" you gotta rip on the Cubs first!

The problem I have with the Medias point of views is 1) They make it sound like all SOX fans are violent and constantly run on the field to beat up umpires.
they make it so that noone wants to visit the park, and that they should be Afraid if they do. 2) I have friends that are SOX fans, and none are like how theyre portrayed in the Media. GO SOX

I personallly have always respected Hangar and the time and effort he puts into the media watch. I read them all the time. I think though there is a point that is being missed. Attendance is up, people are coming out to watch the Sox without the help of the lowlifes on the air and in the print. It is great that we don't need them to get people out to the park. Fans are seeing that KW is trying to get us back to the WS and they appreciate everything that is going on. The Cell is going to be packed this weekend without the help of the media. Let the media go on about the Cubs and let's all laugh when they are playing golf in Oct. and the packed "hellhole" is hosting the postseason.

Hangar, keep up the good work though.

and Hangar the new radio ratings come out today.Just a couple of clarifying points to build on what Voodoo wrote earlier and what Kogs has written here...

We have moved *every* thread concerning the Cubs to the Talking Baseball message board. This is a tremendous amount of work for the unpaid WSI staff. We must have moved at least 15 new threads out of Sox Clubhouse the night Prior came up lame -- that's how many "Sox fans" were anxious to post about it in the one and only EXCLUSIVE message board for Sox talk on the internet. A little appreciation would be in order here.

As a staff we agreed to make *one* exception to the no-Flubs policy in Sox Clubhouse, and that was a tip of the cap to Hanger and his media watch threads. This is because Hangar has been so diligent and consistent these past two seasons tracking this topic and posting the results. He was grandfathered in precisely because of the respect we have for the amount work he does on this subject. He is unpaid, too. You see trend here?

If Hangar ever stopped posting his media watch threads, or if somebody else started making similar posts, they would all wind up in Talking Baseball. It's a credit to Hangar that we treat him and his media watch threads different. He has earned it.

After two seasons, EVERYBODY KNOWS exactly what the media watch threads contain. If you don't like the subject matter, DON'T READ THEM. The entire Sox Clubhouse is devoted to nothing but Sox-specific talk and there are plenty of threads to keep everyone occupied reading and posting.

If you want to talk about the Sox, post 'em here. It's the biggest forum for Sox talk on the internet.

If you want to talk about non-Sox baseball, especially those deep thoughts about the Lovable Losers, post 'em in Talking Baseball. It's the biggest non-Sox baseball talk forum for Sox Fans.

And if you don't like the media watch threads, file your complaint somewhere else. There are plenty of message boards and blogs that specialize in whining and bitching about White Sox Interactive. Do as you please. Speaking for myself only, I really don't give a flying ****.

Baker avoids the tough questions by bringing little Darren to the podium with him every time the Cubs lose a criticial game. The media are less likely to ask Dusty why Zambrano is a prick with a 5-year-old in the room.

Yea...Dan Patrick mentioned it as well and actually said that it was very low that Rusty Bakeoff has to use his son to shield him from the media after a crucial key loss. There was even a joke on the Dan Patrick show that in September when the Scrubs are out of the playoff run that Rusty will have Kobe's daughter on his lap as the ultimate shield.

Well, he can't bring out his 5 year old son's 32 year old nephew; it just wouldn't have the same effect.

When you're right, you're right... and brother...you are right.

The only thing I might slightly disagree with is the idea that a Cubs/Sox media watch could possibly belong in "Talking Baseball". I think this is definitely a White Sox topic that has direct impact on the entire organization and our chances for a World Series.

More media for the Cubs generates more fans. More fans generate more revenue. More revenue generates higher payrolls (although I don't whole heartedly subscribe to the super high payrolls = a World Series).
