Just announced on WSCR, It's the Cubs who are getting Garciapara for prospects, Boston sends those prospects to Arizona for RJ.

Supposedly to be reported tomorrow in a NY paper.

http://graphics7.nytimes.com/images/dropcap/h.gifOUSTON, July 13 - The expected pursuit of Randy Johnson has officially intensified with the Boston Red Sox contemplating a two-part deal in which they would send Nomar Garciaparra to the Chicago Cubs to secure prospects and then use those young players as part of a package to acquire Johnson from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Just thinking of Nomar in a cub uniform makes me sick. But, it's better than RJ going to the yanks.......or flubs.

Aidan, just to let you know, it is illegal to post complete copyrighted stories on other sites, and these boards are no exception. I'm no moderator, but I amongst many others, do not wish for WSI's forums to be shut down on infringement, so please refrain from putting up entire articles.

Also, there's a slew of other threads discussing this topic, so be sure to look around to post information, rather than creating an entirely separate thread.

By the way, if you don't edit the article, including a few quotes if you wish, a moderator will do it for you, but you save time and gain those highly coveted rank points if you do it by yourself.

Sorry, I did not know that. I thought the Internet was public media and anything could be quoted.

I do NOT want to see RJ get traded to another AL team. Imagine if the sox had to face the Red Sox in the playoffs with a rotation of RJ, Schilling, and Pedro. I'm sure there would be a lot of :whiner: on this board

The Score was saying that if we were to trade for Carlos Beltran it would probably be Neal Cotts and Felix Diaz. With Clemens possibly retiring again, Petitte looking very old, and the rest of their pitching staff in shambles, they will need some pitchers.

is that just wishfull thinking? i think that beltran would come at a higher tag than a couple of potential pitchers. to get beltran we would have to give up at least Garland, Cotts, and a position player IMO. i don't think we need him that bad. but by all means get him for cotts and diaz

to get a rent a player for less than half the season we'd have to give up garland to a 5th place team? I doubt it.

i would think that would be true for a player of lesser caliber. if that is all it would take then do it. but what about the other teams in the playoff race? another team needs him more and would be willing to give up more as well, i would think

The Cubs should be fighting tooth and nail to land Garciapop-up. They really do need him a hell of a lot more than we do (unless he's part of some 3-way deal that I haven't seen spelled out in our advantage yet).

If the Cubs score him, brace yourselves for the 2003 playoffs Pt 2. If they don't, then we can just enjoy the Sox/Twins/Tigers/Indians race for the playoffs and subsequent White Sox bone gnashing march towards the World Series.
