Has anyone heard that we are talking to Pittsburgh or may even be interested in him, or are people just posting that we should acquire him?

I think they're just rumors. But rumor has it that KW has talked to Pittsburgh about Kendall.

I'll take Machowiak and Kendall for Crede and 2 prospects.

GM Dave Littlefield said that if (when) the Pirates make a deal, their priority will be to acquire position players.
The Pirates are well-stocked with arms in their minor league system. Littlefield cited the biggest needs at third base, first base, and maybe center field, depending on whether Tike Redman can pick things up in the second half. Jul. 5 - 10:07 am et

The time for getting Mackowiak was last week.

Who's playing 3B? Herbert Perry?

Herbert Perry isn't looking like too bad of an option.

I know I am overreacting with Crede, but the problem with him (as with all Sox players, it seems) is that he was so highly touted and performed so well in the minors...he had too much pressure coming in to be the next Scott Rolen. That being said, if the right deal comes along, I think Crede is definitely tradeable, as long as we get a 3B in return...like Machowiak.

Crede up with RISP makes me want to vomit.

Uribe could play third as well if it turned out we needed to do that.

Add the Mets into the equation and get Wigginton to play third.

WE may as well get him before the Cubs clean out the Pirates again

Hmm, well haven't seen Mackowiak's glove at 3rd, or even seen him play 3rd, but look at the comparison:

Crede: 258 AB, .277 vs. RHP, .223 vs. LHP, 61 H, 12HR, 37 RBI, 20 BB, 49 K
Mackowiak: 256 AB, .279 vs. RHP, .206 vs. LHP, 69 H, 12 HR, 41 RBI, 21 BB, 62 K

Also consider Crede is slumping. For my money, I take Crede. I doubt we would have to give up Crede for Kendall unless we wanted Mackowiak.

The RISP thing is just, for the most part, situational hitting like him not hitting a groundball to the right side yesterday. This is something that I think can be remedied, and is worth the time/effort to fix considering the tools he has. He's not going to be a bust, and I guarantee that if we trade him we'll be kicking ourselves 2 years from now when he's hitting a solid .275-.290 with 25 HRS and picking everything.
