There's been lots of talk about Kenny making another trade. Just wondering what people think we should do?

- Grab a CF?
- Another SP?
- A right handed setup man?
- A lefty specialist?
- A stud catcher?
- A 3b?

Personally, I'd like to see a good setup man - but I don't want to overpay again like we did for Garcia. Although, I really believe it's this year or never (now) so we gotta go out and get a killer arm (Smoltz, Baez or Guardado). Maybe even somebody who's currently a closer. I think we could also use a speedster baserunner. I don't really consider CF a need right now, but I would give up quite a bit for Carl Crawford.

What would everybody else do?

Get a righty in the bullpen and a catcher.

they need some bullpen help. their starting pitching should be fine with garcia now. they need a righty out of the pen because polittle and jackson just wont cut it.

Agreed on Jackson. Disagree on Politte. I think Politte could be very effective if used in middle relief for the 6/7th innings. Marte and Takatsu are already holding down the back of the bullpen, so if we just got one more decent, but not spectacular arm, then I think we'd be doing good. It might be best to call up Bajeneru from AA than to give up something for potentially similar talent/ability. You can win the World Series with rookie relievers, just ask the Angels with Donnely/K-rod.

I dont think we need a bat really. A catcher would be a bonus, but I dont think we need one at this time. The best of Timo/Rowand/Harris is about as good as any CF we could probably get reasonably unless we got Steve Finley.

Another starter would be great. I just dont know if Schoeneweis can really continue to succeed in the starting role and he could be very valuable as a 6th/7th inning guy out of the bullpen.

A real key is how Diaz and Rauch pitch out of the bullpen. If they pitch well in that role then the need for a righty reliever will be gone. The biggest hole is still the starting pitching IMO and adding a guy like Ortiz would do wonders for this team. Ortiz and Jones could help this team more than Maggs alone could IMO.

We need another guy in the pen for sure. That should be Priority #1. (As long as it has nothing to do w/ Baez)

Then, and I may be dreaming, but we make a play at Crawford and Kendall. Even if Maggs walks at the end of this year, I think these two guys would work pretty well and if Pitt ate up a good portion of Kendall's contract, we may even save money.

Think of this:
Crawford CF (.316 AVG, .352 OBP, .454 SLG)
Uribe 2B (.292 AVG, .347 OBP, .511SLG)
Kendall C (.316 AVG, .394 OBP, .383 SLG)
Thomas DH (.282 AVG, .447 OBP, .590 SLG)
Maggs RF (.311 AVG, .370 OBP, .521 SLG)
Lee LF (.296 AVG, .367 OBP, .433 SLG)
Konerko 1B (.280 AVG, .372 OBP, .549 SLG)
Crede 3B (.243 AVG, .299 OBP, .444 SLG)
Valentin SS (.266 AVG, .332 OBP, .578 SLG)

Frank gets more pitches w/ 3 guys that can get on base in front of him and run, and Maggs, Lee, and Konerko behind him. Valentin can turn the order over.

Didnt we have scott sullivan last year and it proved to help us nowhere?

I think our team is fine now. Crede is proving his second half wonderness and is comin on strong. Uribe is slumpin which is bad but i feel our team is good where it is. If we used our relief better than it would be a better pen. Only trot jackson out there when its mop up\blow out duty. Have middle relief be adkins and cotts, marte set up and takatsu close. I have faith in cotts, his era was greatly inflated due to that bumbled start, and now i fear his confidence was shattered with that.

We could still use bullpen help and sooner or later we need an everyday CFer. Id love crawford, but with the mini-miracle going on down in tampa I dont think he is available...I havent checked the standings, bu they cant be real far out of the wild card race, plus they have some really good young players.

You can never have too much starting pitching. But bullpen help of some sort and a CFer are the top 2 priorities...and catching is a weak spot, or eventually will be. We basically have 3 backups

The first thing we need to do is get a catcher. Burke, well, we shouldn't even be talking about him. He's not a prospect. He's 32. He's never really been good at any level. He had 18 AB's before tonight.

Sandy, while being a leader, probably won't last the season, especially with a heavy workload.

We need to find anybody who can fill the void. Catcher = a HUGE problem for this team right now.

crawford is not an option.
