makes sense, they havent been able to deal him due to salary. Since we can take it on, we should be able to get him cheap.

I'd like to think that the Sox should be able to get the Pirates to pick up some of it.

I just found out that he has 4 years left including this year and is owed $42,000,000. That's a lot of money

Before this season, apparently he had $42 million left on his contract. That's a lot. I would guess that if he's making 8.5 this year, that's 42 is probably over 4 years, which means that by the last year he'll probably be making around 12 or so.

edit: oops i guess i got beat by a minute.

Pittsburgh I'm sure would have to pay for some of the remaining money.

I'll take Kendall no doubt if the Pirates are able to make it interesting for us (contract wise). They've been willing to pick up a portion in many suspect deals, so maybe KW already has something close to being worked out. Four years would be okay knowing we have Donald Lucy in the mix. A couple years of minor league experience with Alomar backing up during that time, and then Lucy can back up Kendall until he's ready for full time duties. That's a perfect world, we'll see how it works out. Either way though, Kendall is a good catcher to have, no doubt about it.

Lip, do you think the Sox are actually in a position to make this sort of trade? It seems well over our heads.

the pirates are probably a fairminded organization. i'm sure they feel bad about what they did to us in the todd ritchie deal so they'll probably give us special consideration ...... like just give him to us salary paid for this year. :redneck

He's making 8.5 this year.
He is signed through 2007, making $8 million this year, $10 million next year, $11 million in 2006 and $13 million in 2007.

Lip, do you think the Sox are actually in a position to make this sort of trade? It seems well over our heads. With Paul Wilson really being a catcher, instead of a left fielder, the Pirates have been trying to dump the salary. I think anyone could have him provided they were interested in taking his contract. The Pirates will be willing to help out in this regard, but how much, I don't know.

I think Jason Kendall would be a great fit for this team! I don't know how the money would work out, but if KW could do this I would be happy overall with the two trades. Maybe he could get Brian Meadows in the deal for some bullpen help too.

Maybe he could get Brian Meadows in the deal for some bullpen help too.Sounds fair to me, especially given that I don't think there's a huge market out there for Kendall right now. We take JK, $$$, & Meadows. They get 1 or 2 VERY low-level prospects and feel happy we ate their payroll.

Heck - I might even ask for Oliver Perez to even things out!

Edit: It just occurred to me that one possible plan would be to trade nothing for Kendall, take on the salary, then let Maggs walk and play ARow/Borchard in the OF. I would be surprised and disgusted if that happened.

FYI, you don't have to link JR's picture into your box to make his mug appear. It is one of hundreds of smileys and tags available to posters here. On the right of the text box, there are several smileys that you can use. Under them, you'll see a link that says "More" that brings up all the wonderful tags you can use to doll up your post.

Instead of letting maggs get jones and ortiz id rather have jones than both Rowand and Borchard
