This si the deal that Miss Cleo Gammons says "makes sense" for the White Sox:

The White Sox trade outfielder Jeremy Reed and pitcher Jon Rauch (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6620) to Colorado for pitchers Jason Jennings (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6785) and Shawn Chacon (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6713).

Besides the fact that I don't want it to happen, I think Rauch would get LIT UP in Denver.

I might do it. I am sick of holding on to prospects for dear life only to see them blow when they get here. I would have to look at Jennings and Chacon on tape a little bit as I dont see many Rockies games, but the fact that they pitch in Coors might negate the usual decline that a pitchers numbers take when moving from NL to AL.Once again, I am not saying I would do this, just that it merits consideration. Rauch doesnt impress me and we have so many outfield prospects that losing Reed wouldnt be the end of the world.

Walk to K rates are in low ones, those are park independent so shouldn't see a big Coors field factor there. I might be overrating Reed but he is worth a lot more then two average pitchers.

chacon was 11-3 before the all star break last year before getting injured

I don't trust anything coming from the guy that said last year around this time that the White Sox should be contracted because why do you need 3 MLB teams within 90 miles of each other.

That's the stupidest f'ing trade in the history of stupid f'ing trades. Our best positional prospect for two reclamation projects... makes sense.

Gammons is a total idiot!

Six trades that make sense

6. The White Sox trade outfielder Jeremy Reed and pitcher Jon Rauch (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6620) to Colorado for pitchers Jason Jennings (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6785) and Shawn Chacon (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6713). http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1825878

Well I'm sure this trade makes sense too then:

Boston recieves
Guardado
Garcia
Ichiro

Seattle Receives:
Prospects

I thought maybe if these two guys had decent stats on the road, but they've both been doing the same home and road. And Jeremy Reed at Coors Field? I don't even want to think about how scary that would be.

The best part of the whole thing to me is this quote from rotoworld:

The Rockies are holding internal discussions today about Shawn Chacon's role.
Chacon is expected to be given a breather from his closing duties, with the team turning to Tim Harikkala and Steve Reed to save games. If Chacon isn't going to be the closer he needs to be in the rotation, but for now he apparently will just get his confidence back in low-pressure middle relief situations. Chacon has self-destructed the past month, blowing four of seven saves while issuing 13 walks in 13 1/3 innings

Yeah, just what we need: a former closer who's struggling and reduced to mop-up duty.....why don't we save time and just trade Reed+Rauch to the Marlins for another utility IF?

Though this thread has already been going on earlier in the day, the more I think of it, I have to say more.

How is it that Gammons gets paid by a national media provider? I mean, he is so much of a Red Sox fan that it completely colors his reporting. Between he and Joe Morgan, I have never seen such biased commentators that are suposed to be impartial given that they are not affiliated with any one team. Gammons is a joke! I'm sure he thinks the Red Sox could get Beltran and Randy Johnson for Kevin Millar too. Whereas he comes up with these cockeyed trades for every other team. Someone shut this man up!

No, I have a better idea. Since we need a closer, let's trade Reed and Rauch to Florida for Billy Koch.

According to world-renown baseball insider Peter Gammons, a trade being considered by the Sox: Jeremy Reed and Jon Rauch for the Colorado Rockies' Jason Jennings and Shawn Chacon. I don't know these Rockie players. Discuss...

is that an actual proposed trade or one of gammons' creations?

Jason Jennings wasn't with the Rockies last year and wasn't too bad. Got around 15 wins, I think. 5th or 4th starter material, maybe 3rd. I'm thinking it was with Baltimore.

Chacon is their closer; came out of nowhere early one season as a lights-out starter, then got injured and moved to the Bullpen.

Nowadays, Chacon is absolutely terrible. His record is 0-5 with an 8.38 ERA but that doesn't even begin to describe the horror. He's like the version of Koch you only see in your worst nightmares. Everytime I turn on Fox Sports and see this guy the bases are just jammed, always. He's Billy on a bad day, every day.

Plus he's got that whole Coco/CC rotated hat thing going on. No room for that on this team.

It was in his latest column at ESPN.com. under *Six trades that make sense to a complete idiot like myself*

Totally fabricated with no basis in fact from what I could tell. He really needs to do a better job of qualifying these false *rumors* that he makes up. Moron.

And FWIW as others have mentioned Chacon has lost his closer job due to his ineffectiveness. Just what we need, thanks Pete!

You're thinking of Jason Johnson, who is now with Detroit.

I might do it because I dont think rauch will ever be that good and especially not in colorado. I would make chacon back into a starter because thats where he excelled last year. Jennings also has been solid in the past. The only one Im hesitant on is reed, but I dont think the guy is untouchable. He seems to be injury prone and isnt tearing it up BA wise this year. With the other outfield prospects I think he is expendable. I know some people think he might be the second coming, but I have seen nothing to even think he will be an all star. I would consider this trade seriously

No Thanks,

Do we need another closer with a 8+ ERA? Didn't we just get rid of one? Plus we got SHINGO!!

I'm tired of all the Gammons bashing. Back in the Roland Hemond era, it seemed Gammons had a Sox scoop every week. He still had some connections in the Schueler era. He does seem to have lost his source in the Sox front office, but I still think he's one of the best baseball reporters there is.

Philo-Sox-er

Gammons could be the best baseball reporters, except he is so biased and predujiced. He always takes the easy story too. That is why he is always the first to jump on the Flubs bandwagon and you can never hear enough about the Red Sox. Gammons' wet dream is a Flubs-Red Sox world series, where the Red Sox win in game 7. It is so syrupy that it hurts my stomach.

I wish he could be more objective and report on all the teams equally.

I was at the Brewer game last night and watched Jennings pitch (6 hits, 1ER over 6 innings). I thought he had great stuff and good placement. I would take him over Rauch in a heartbeat.
