Per today's ST, here comes big boy Rauch, hopefully the combined experience of his last trip up has kicked him into high gear and his success in AAA since then comes through.

Per KW & the team:

''Before I made the decision to bring him back, I consulted with the coaching staff and his teammates,'' Williams said Saturday night. ''They agreed with me. No one is beyond giving someone a second chance.

''We all make mistakes. I have a pretty good feeling history won't repeat itself.''

Veteran shortstop Jose Valentin said Thursday that Rauch owes the Sox an apology. ''I know he would have to feel pretty weird,'' Valentin said. ''You can't show up your teammates like that.''
Here's hoping Jon comes through. I know many here have said he deserved to be the guy all along, and I think he certainly deserves another shot (despite the fact that I think he committed a serious faux pas).

I guess he wasn't traded then. :D:

I guess that means KW isn't making a move to get a 5th starter any time soon!

No, it just means KW doesn't know when he'll be able to make a move. He has to prepare as if he won't be acquiring a 5th starter. If he does within the next few days, then Rauch may not be needed. But otherwise, we need a starter on Thursday so someone has to be ready.

Rauch was the most effective of all the pitchers tried so far. At least he threw strikes. Hope he manages more of what he did last time but a little more effectively. Work the corners a bit Jon. You don't have to throw everything right down the middle.

No, don't you understand? Kenny WANTS to do this 5th starter carousel! He's never even been looking for a starter in the first place because his EGO says we don't need one. See ideally, Kenny would like to have a losing team because it would prove to the world that he's in charge of it. Every move Kenny makes is calculated to hurt the team as much as possible.

Oh gawd no. The tall drink of water returns to the scene of his crimes.

I wish I could be optomistic, but at this point I think he's a triple A pitcher. He's another one of the guys that have never recovered from arm surgery. If he hadn't been rated so highly by BA, he'd probably be gone.

The Sox aren't doing themselves any favors with this shuttle program they have going. Settle on one pitcher and tell him to go out and throw. Give them the time to get acclimated.

I'm not optimistic about this game. Cleveland has some hitters and I suspect they're gonna light him up.

Ozzie: rest up those relievers.

Ideally, Jon gets a few days w/ the team pre-start to clear the air, get settled, etc. But that will be determined by the starting pitching & how tired the pen gets in the next few days.

Let's see if Garland can shut down the Montreal Hit Machine....

On a side note, would this set the MLB record for most "Jon"s on 1 team? Any more in the system that we can bring up?

Either that or JR doesn't want to spend $$$$$ in order to seal the deal on a quality pitcher.

Now there's a shock!

I don't know about one team, but I'm willing to bet it's a record for one pitching staff.

Is there a chance that this move is to increase Jon's trade value? After KW knocked the value out of him with making that last deal public, this show of confidence may bring that back up...

I personally don't mind Jon if he is given time to settle in and get a few starts.

Someone is going to figure out that Rauch is going to be a very good middle relief guy someday. If and when we ever get that pitcher we need i hope that we still have Rauch, because i think hes' going to be a big help in that roll.

They wouldn't call Jon up today, with a depleted bullpen, if they wanted him to start in 4 days. He may start if not needed, but right now, he is there to provide help out of the bullpen if need be.

He should stay there till either he can prove he can get guys out or he just blows goats.

Is 17 runs a Montreal Expo record for runs in a single game? If so, that has to be the biggest single reason for JR to open his wallet and for KW to get on the phone to get a 5th starter. If his name is happens to be Jon, so be it.

I can't believe you bums think KW and JR don't want another 5th starter. It's not their fault Seattle wants to wait. They're trying, just because other teams don't want to deal right now doesn't mean it's their fault. Could they get Freddy Garcia now? Yes, but that would probably have to be a deal in which we give up too much now, just cause the good 'ole fans at WSI were too damn impatient. Trading is a 2 team thing, not 1.

I think Rauch is currently tryin to show hes sorry for the whole debacle a few weeks back. Its reported he arrived midgame today and was throwing in the pen around the 8th inning? I would presume him being called up would go directly to chicago since today was the final game of the series before road trippin back home. Maybe he is tryin to mend some fences

He better watch his back. Saturday, Great Falls won and got a save from M. Zaleski (I have no idea who this is). Next stop: fifth starter!

Or more likely, he was called up in case they needed help out of the pen today, since the pen is way overworked?? Rauch wasn't called up today to be a 5th starter.

Great reaction from Schoenweis- it's what's to like about the environment that Oz has cultivated around the clubhouse-veterans demonstrating the right way to play the game..........

"He kind of explained his situation," said left-hander Scott Schoeneweis, who will start Monday night against Cleveland. "I listened to what he had to say, but told him:

"'Regardless of what was told to you or the situation, there should have been no way you would think about leaving here before the game was over, unless you had an exact flight you had to get to, and they knew about it. You made a big mistake, and you better hope it doesn't affect the rest of your career here. You need to talk to the general manager, you need to talk to the manager. Don't make excuses. Don't say it was someone else's fault. Come clean and say you made a mistake and it won't happen again.

It's good to see that KW has a sense of humor about the whole thing:

Because of flight delays getting to Montreal, Rauch didn't arrive in the dugout Sunday until about the fifth inning. ''In his last two games,'' Williams said with a smile, ''he has a whole game under his belt.''

At least Kenny's ego isn't to the point where he can't swallow a little pride and do what is best for the team. Unless a trade goes down, Rauch is the most effective starter of the bunch (King of turd town). Hopefully this kid makes the most of his second chance and pitches lights out.

Minnesota is working around some castoff from another team, so I guess the Sox are following suit.

What a horrid outing by the rook Saturday, and what a wonderful decision by Ozzie to leave him in to take a beating.

Both teams lose 2 of 3 on the road. Brewers are a better lot, but the Expos winning 2 is not impressive.
