A laughing stock? I don't think transforming to a family atmosphere qualifies that, but even if it did, I could care a less. Making fun about a team's mascot only comes into play when you can't comment on the team itself, which is in first place.

Southpaw's main purprose is to mingle with kids in the Fundamentals area, the concourse and at HOSPITALS.
Anyone who would make fun of that needs a reality check.

Really, did anyone expect this thing not to get made fun of? I personally have no problem with it, but there's no chance that everyone was going to leave it alone. Most mascots are pretty silly.

I'm actually all in favor of creating a family atmosphere, and have nothing against mascots in general, but Southpaw is just plain lame.
How is he thematically tied to the Sox? Before I saw the Sunt-Times article, I thought he was an alligator, which makes no sense at all. I guess kids are still into dinosaurs? Is that the hook? Why not bring back a trimmed down Ribbie or Rhubarb and at least have some connection to Sox history?

i graduated, but i'll do anything for a cheap buck! unfortunately im in los angeles.
willie the wildcat does do anything you want- well, not anything. i think he charges about 100 bucks for something like that.
this (http://nusports.collegesports.com/genrel/nw-willie-wildcat.html) is his info for appearances.

No dice. A patbooyah barmitzvah is far better than a generic one.

He gets mentnioned, a few people take some cracks at him and then it falls into the usual Sox/Cubs argument...
Not nearly as good/funny as the pics they created of Dusty not long ago.

When he had the tie or after he went all informal?

I think every MLB mascot gets made fun of. Lotta "Youppi" mockery floated around in the past.
This comment was pretty funny, wonder of someone on this thread posted it:
"Don't worry about the Cub fans getting jealous, they have their mascot... he's called "Cork-boy".

when he went all informal- i was the mascot from winter 1999-spring 2003. there were about five kids who rotated- and i was surely the best.
