Let's do this.

It's weird. A lot of the phillies games I've seen this year have been with the Phils struggling on offense. They sure don't look like it here though.

The way Milton is throwing, that one run is all the Phillies are going to need.

The Twins find ways to win low scoring close games all the time, so we should have no trouble catching up and beating the phils if we are better than the twins.

We're leading the Twins because we can beat the **** out of the ball, not because we can win low-scoring games. The Twins are so close because they can.

Our pitching staff minus the third starter is one of the best in the league. Bullpen is top 5. The reason we're not as good as we can be is because the offense shuts it down on somedays and can't win the close games. If we hope to win the division this year, we better find a way to do it.

Yeah, but joe put his glove in the way so the ump couldn't see. If he just lets it roll, it would be obviously foul and if it somehow hit the bag, he would still be able to make a play.

SIGH. that man is struggling with everything

SIGH. that man is struggling with everything I'm guessing Joe didn't even think it was close. If you saw the look on his face when the Ump called it fair, he clearly was shocked.

And HOW are the Mets only a game under .500. They are the worst offense I have ever seen. Or else the Twins pitching is really starting to heat up. Not sure which it is, but it's bothersome.

Don't know if anyone will agree but I think our inability to score in the 3rd with runners at the corners and no one out really swung the momentum. Of course Garland helped them out too but maybe if we put some runs up earlier, the Phills would be more inclined to mail it in.

I don't think this is a big deal at all, just write it off as a bad game for Garland.

Of course as I write this, we come right back with 3 runs. :)

06-09-2004, 09:35 PM

****! 10-5 Phills. Small complaint but Ozzie has a tendency to wait too long in making a switch. Garland had nothing the previous inning and that was just deflating.

You've obviously forgotten Tony LaRussa's tenure here. He learned when to pull a pithcer after he left the Sox. That seems to happen with most of our managers who go on.

Why did Ozzie leave Garland in after giving up 8 runs?

They still just might come back, but jeez if a reliever came in then it could be just 8-6.

Also, what is this now, 40 runs in two games? Holy moly.

I do not like how we have been playing at all. The one game we won Friday in Seattle and last night's victory both could have been losses. Assuming we lose tonight (foregone conclusion to this point), it could have been our seventh loss in a row.

I do not believe in this Polyanna crap.

But they were losses none the less, and a lack of execution on offense was a big factor in both of them. It also may have been a factor tonight as before the Phillies' 7-run outburst, we have a golden opportunity to score but failed. That changed momentum.

So far, our high water mark has been the Anaheim (home) and Minnesota (road) series. Since then, we've played like crap with two lucky wins.

Yeah, I totally agree. I also can't stand when someone points a legit problem or need for the team and the reply is followed with a "We're in first, shut up." I listen to the WFAN all the time and all they do is talk about Yanks and how to get better or critique. Just b/c we're in first (probably tied after tonight) doesn't mean we are immune to problems.

The question was asked about the Sox record in one run games. It's 13-6. They started out the season an unbelievable 11-1 in that department.

I think they need to figure out a different way to pitch to Jim Thome.
